Matrix Meanderer
Can anyone recommend a supplier for a hardwire kit for my Avtex Sat Nav which is a Garmin 780 underneath! Avtex themselves are out of stock (covid again) and I would like to buy one in the next couple of weeks. Thanks.
Derek Uzzell
Hard-wiring a Garmin sat-nav is discussed in these MHFun forum threads https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/garmin-770-sat-nav-hardwire-kit.238585/ https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/hard-wiring-satnav-won%E2%80%99t-charge-garmin.210958/ This advert is for a power cable that SUPPOSEDLY is suitable for a Garmin Nuvi 780 https://www.amazon.co.uk/DIRECT-POWER-GARMIN-STREETPILOT-connector/dp/B001URREJM though I’d follow the MHFun suggestion to hard-wire an extra 12V cigar-lighter socket into which the standard Garmin dashboard plug can be inserted. That approach should sidestep potential incompatibilty problems.
Matrix Meanderer
Thanks Derek. I've sourced a hardwire kit on EBay that the seller tells me will power the 780 sat nav. He has a comprehensive range of Garmin power leads for sale for all types of vehicles and bikes so I'm hoping that this lead will have enough power to avoid the error messages. I'll test it before installing and if it doesn't do the job I'll return it and go for the extra cigarette lighter method.
