And its the Home office employees that are supplying the dope it seems

As above. Nigel was very instrumental in bringing about this shambles he is now complaining about.

Yes, it is.  I think it was the Albanians in this case though that informed the authorities that the government employees were trying to sell them drugs.  Maybe Braverman is secretly a drug dealer.

I wonder if they informed the authorities after their hotel smoke alarms had gone off and they'd been forced to smoke dope by those "government employees". As if going through war and famine wasn't bad enough they now are forced to smoke dope in luxury hotels . Shame on all you blooming Brexit voters, shame on you

Wow!! Virtually nobody now thinks the Tories have control of our borders since Brexit. Shocking. I thought Brexit was supposed to stop all this, not make it ten times worse.

Probably ensuring their Albanian benefactors business is not being usurped by British drug dealers.

Once again you seem to have misunderstood.  Its what Brexit has left in its wake that is the problem.  That I do give a toss about.

So, how about a few facts?  1257678496_Albanianimmigration2001-22.jpg.f75aa9032df823a0c24b8715d64fe427.jpg

Perhaps unsurprisingly, there seems not to be any data from before 2001.

But, as you can see, current applications are about the 2003 level, and below the 2001/2 level.  The figures relate purely to applications, and include all who, having arrived by whatever means, apply to enter the UK - whether at an immigration desk or in custody as a result of arrest following illegal entry.  It should not be inferred that all are "illegals"

The 2001 - 2004 numbers seemed odd, until I saw that there had been a civil war in Albania during 1997/8.  From 2004 and 2013 there is a sharp drop in numbers, which then, except 2015 and 2019, settel at around the 1,500 applications per year.  2015 was provoked by sharp economic decline in Albania, 2019 by the severe earthquake that struck the province around Tirana in that year.

But then, look at the percentage of applications actually being accepted and you're looking at about 400 a year, or 30% (meaning about 70% are rejected) from 2019.  Considering the fuss Albanian migrants has spawned, you may be surprised the know that the population of Albania is just under 3,000,000.  You may also be surprised to know that Germany receives, on average, 8 times the number of applicants Britain receives, France about 3 times the number, the Netherlands about the same, and Greece only a little less.

The main reasons for the present efflux seem to be a collapsing economy, and rampant corruption, meaning that educated young Albanians see little prospect of gainful employment at home, and so look abroad for their future.

The above figures take no account of how the applicants arrive in the UK.  Many arrive by normal channels, not via small boats.

So, why have Albanian migrants suddenly become the source of such intense native agitation?  This seems to be largely because for all the years up to 2019, when the Tirana earthquake caused a surge, and 2020, when Covid made clandestine entry more or less impossible because of the backlogs at the ports, most (along with all the other migrant nationalities) had gained entry by stowing away on aircraft, trucks, and trains, and were mostly not detected.  Following the outbreak of Covid these routes became practically unworkable, and the use of risky inflatable dinghies the only means of slipping across the Channel.  The problem then became that even small craft crossing the channel, in part because this is only possible during good weather, made them highly visible and far easier to detect.

The success rate for applications currently hovers around 20%, meaning that 80% are rejected.  The same is broadly true for Albanians when the percentage of those admitted is compared to the percentage of all applicants, from whatever source, who are admitted.

The panic arises only because what was previously invisible has become visible, because of the use of small boats.  Those in an immigrant fervour should perhaps look on the bright side, the small boats have forced the government to face up to a problem that had existed for years, but to which they had largely chosen to turn a blind eye.

Funny old world, ain't it?  😄

I might add Brian that migration not through the proper channels dropped dramatically after 2003 because of the Le Touquet agreement between France and the UK where we invested heavily in infrastructure and security on French soil in a joint project with the French.

It worked in 2003 at the ports and continues to do so. If the Tories were serious about tackling this issue then this is the way to do it but of course its not very Brexity to be working with the French on sensible measures is it?  I notice the government have agreed a further miniscule amount of funding this week to the French but it needs a lot more than that and a real solution on the other side of the channel.  The irony in all this being Brexit has made it all much worse.

To answer your very last point, yes it is indeed a "Funny old world" . Whats funnier still is this bit "what was previously invisible has become visible" . Maybe in whatever world you live that may be true or maybe you've just "chosen to turn a blind eye " to it or maybe you've just formed an opinion on those for who it hasn't been "invisible" and its been very much "visible" for a long time . I havent seen any "panic" either, I have seen concern and maybe somewhere along the way you've allowed yourself to confuse concern with panic .

I have. Our own Home Secretary controversially called it "an invasion" the other day, the daily hate rags are full of the usual guff spouting similar and Nigel Farage has been very angry about it for a while now.  As a result social media is alive with people "panicking" and frothing at the mouth about it.

Goodness Barryd999 for such a short post you've "controversially" packed it full of beauties . "daily hate, guff, spouting, very angry, panicking, frothing". Its not really my place to say but I fear you're a little like respected member Brain Kirkby . He of course unlike you thankfully holds back from packing in the insults to those who show concern . "They reckon?"  I think that sounds utter rubbish to me

Then again, since Brexit we have had to open the flood gates to Asia and Africa to make up for all the white christian Europeans that left or no longer want to come here and the Tories have lost control of our borders so you never know.
