Similar question to Bill's but not quite. We are considering spending 6 months travelling the USA in a RV, although this is still in the dreaming stage at the moment. I would welcome any advice from people who have done this or direction to an appropiate website. Some of the things I would like to know are; * Is it better to purchase a rig and then sell at the end of the 6 months or better to just rent for the period. * How safe is it? * Documentation and Regulations to be complied with. However any advice at would be gratefully received.

Hi there....we went to USA for two months and would advise you to buy and sell as the cost of hiring is masssssive! Suggest you try and take a US Driving Test as it will make your Veh Ins much, much cheaper (Florida is a good place). You may consider Storing your van after your 6 months so that you can return again! There are lots of storage areas and relatively cheap. You could even "hire" your van out to other Brits that want to do what you are doing, whilst you are not using it. If you consider the US Dvg Lic....do not yet them put you off by saying you need a Social Security No before you can take a test. There are ways round that. We did an exchange and toured from San Fran through all the Nat Pks down to Tombstone, Arizona.....wonderful. We used Nat and County Park camping sites (approx $10 per night). Good Luck.
