Ducato oil can warning lights

Interesting thread running on the Ducato forum

Flashing amber oil can warning led to several expensive visits to dealer.

But it was apparently caused by the oil level being slightly over filled

Not by low oil pressure as suggested in the handbook

Being on level ground doesn't mean the engine is level as it depends on the loading and type of van.

Not easy to check the oil on a Ducato as it smudges all over the stick - but I find it helps to wipe the stick all the way up, not just the bit you read.

Lesson seems to be don't fill the oil right up to the max level - aim for above the minimum mark, but couple of mm below the full mark.

  • John52 changed the title to Ducato oil can warning lights

The new Ducatos do not have a dip stick.Oil level  Is electronically displayed and is not accurate.

If you overfilled the older version they coud suck out the excess oil  via dip stick

On the new model its as be drained out via sump.

I found out after topping up oil level before trip to Spain in September..The warning light came on after 300mile drive.

Garage could only drain excess oil via sump for just half a litre

Valuable advice about the latest Ducatos.

The Handbook's guidance is here

Where my 2015 Ducato was concerned, when the engine oil was clean I found it very hard to see the level on the dip stick. I used the time-honoured ploy of laying the business-end of the dip-stick flat against the surface of a paper towel, which made it easy to identify the level.
