Arrived home from Rennishaw Sat afternoon a good event spoiled by the halls staff & the weather. It took us 3 hours to get there Friday with the floods(that should have told us some thing). The estates tractor was towing car+vans ON & OFF the field where they put us all to camp talk about getting bogged down, you camped where you were towed to, they towed us to a spot which we thought would be sound. It stopped raining so we got the awning up in time before it started to rain again. By this time the tractor had earned it's keep even that struggled at times. (Why didn't they scrape all the churned mud up and put down hay???) Got up Sat morn to a flooded site (this is where hard standing comes in) the rain had run into the awning mixed with cow sh**e and stunk awful & ankle deep, so we decided to "spend" a couple of hours walking around as it had stopped raining but go home around 3 ish. Met loads of people we havent seen for ages but & a big but the halls staff had put the stall holders onto the pitches that the re-enacters had booked for there display & they were put at the side and back where the MOPs struggled see them. Only 1 steward on site for appox 300 of us so the organiser Paul & Robbie went to find the estate manager, talk about p***ing the lads off!! Would not except any blame for anything & insulted Robbie who is a retired officer of the Combined Ops group to boot. So they WILL NOT be going back there again. Nice Hall but run by idiots. Recieved a phone call Sat night it started raining again & all the MOPs went home, Hope it's better today for them.

So you see if there was hard standing pitches we would have been ok.

Next week Hampton Loade Severn Valley R/Way.

Bit of a bummer with the weather these last few days Wayne, but thats global warming for you. At least you survived the weekend and looking at some of the flooding we,ve had lucky the event went ahead at all. Always feel sorry for campers caught in those conditions and at least with the van you are off the ground. Lets hope it clears up and you get to enjoy that Severn railway show.

To be serious and back to the point ... how about some of those collapsible water carreirs. You could then fill them when you get there thus no weight to carry whilst in transit and then tie the guy lines to the handles. If one isn't sufficient just get one or two more for each line. Just make sure you clearly marked them so that nobody nicked them!

Howie ... didn't mean to distract you ... just a bit of fun (good for the elf you know). They say little things amuse .... (lol)

High Forester

Have a look at

Not sure these would work unless you could get between the flags tho. But they certainly work on the impacted type hard standing.

Only thing I can suggest re the flag hardstanding is get the storm straps on and run them out beyond the flags.

Water carriers on the bottom of the awning seems a good idea.

Just wonderred what the site charged per night for awnings!!!!
