cab heater control problem

Hi, I have a 2007 Fiat Ducato Ace Milano and the heater control knob is not operating fully. It will only work between half cool and half hot. I have removed as much of the dash as possible and I can hear the flaps being operated but I presume it is either the control unit that has failed or the flaps are stuck. The fan operates without any problems. Either way it looks like a full dash removal and I am hesitant to do that. Anyone had a similar problem and a better solution?

The Fiat Ducato range was significantly revised in mid-2006, so it might be worth establishing whether your Ace Milano is based on the 'old' or 'revised' Ducato base.

This is easy to do visually  - the upper image below shows a Milano on the 'old' base and the lower image is of a revised 'X250' Ducato-based Milano.

This link relates to the 'old' Ducato

and these links to the 'revised' Ducato

There's a fair amount of on-line discussion about this type of issue and - although I wouldn't have thought the complete dashboard would need to be removed to address such problems - for both 'old' or 'revised' Ducatos, a good deal of disassembly will be required.

if your 2007 Ducato is based on the latter photo model (X250) it seems that the heater control dial failing is a common problem.

It could either be the actual dial/control - behind it is the switch - that's failed or it could be the heater resistor. - This can be found in the passenger footwell below the glove box.

It's a cheap and easy fix if you are prepared to do it yourself. There's a chap on youtube who has filmed replacing one, so I'd start there.
