Who's best for replacing an A class windscreen?

Recommended Posts

I have a stonechip and crack in my Exsis-I screen.

Comfort Insurance will be dealing with it, so no problem there.

However, when calling the insurance helpline I was put through to Auto Windscreens, since then [having then spoken to Comfort directly] I have also been contacted by Autoglass.

Comfort explained it's pot luck as to who picks up on the helpline [Aviva]

Auto W, wouldn't confirm that they would use an OE Bertone screen, whether Autoglass will do I can't say at this point - so I'm wondering if any of you have had any experience dealing with either company.

I doubt there are any generic windscreens available, but a OE Bertone replacement is what I am expecting, and my preferred choice.

Thanks in advance.

"Best", I can't say.  We had an Exsis-i 578 between from 2013 to 2017, during which time we had to have the windscreen replaced on three occasions (not due to defective screens, but due to the vertical alignment of the windscreen, and its forward position, which combine to "catch" flying stones etc.

On each occasion the replacement was provided via Autoglass, who were reliable, efficient, neat, and did a good, fuss-free, job.

The Exsis-i screens are relatively large, so the team who turned up to replace them were not the regular car screen replacement guys, and were familiar with inserting larger screens into vehicles such as buses and coaches.

The Exis-i screens are purpose designed for those vehicles, which are not produced in high-volumes by motor industry standards, so seem unlikely to be "patterned" copies.  I didn't check for maker's marks etc. but all three were visually identical to the original so far as tint was concerned, and were apparently problem-free to fit.  Hope this helps.

Good to know Brian - thanks.

That must be a record - 3 screens in 4 years!

I very much doubt there are any patterned copies about either, and I think Travelworld may even stock OE screens.

So, at present both candidates are looking into it, and I've been transparent with both parties concerned.

At the moment Autoglass seem the more proactive, although both appear to have specialist teams in place for this kind of work.

I'm currently dealing with Autoglass who are due today for the second attempt to replace my standard Ducato screen. Rain prevented play on the first appointment although they turned up (2x vans from 'Specials Hub1' in Glasgow) as arranged.

So screen not replaced as yet and today's weather is still iffy but I've been happy with them thus far; always phoning when they say they will and keeping you well informed. They called to arrange a second appointment within 5 minutes of the vans leaving last time. Nice tracker app for their incoming vans.

Hopefully they'll be good at actually fitting the windscreen too.

Years ago on my hymer 544 my screen went in Spain i contacted Comfort who got carglass Spain (autoglass company) to fit a new screen, made a mess of it completely, leaked, rubber not meeting round the screen, damaged the decals at the side of the screen, made a chip on the bottom of the new screen, after I complained Comfort told me to wait unti I got home to get it replaced again, since then Carglass Spain have refused to do A class motorhomes so I've been told.

back home Comfort got a bus company to replace it and done a good job including replacing the side decals
