Leisure battery / charging issue

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a Carado T449 Motorhome and have the following problem. On travelling to the south of Spain I used the French aires as overnight stops and relied on battery power for the 4 days travel from home to the camp site. The battery did not move from the full position at all, we had the overhead fan on each night,  had a cool box running on the leisure battery as well as lights, fridge and water etc. when at the campsite on electric hook up the leisure battery dipped to half full after 3 days and died completely on day 5. I disconnected the electric hook up and started the Motorhome for a few minutes and the leisure battery was at half power again. This enabled me to again run the fridge, but had to be repeated every day. When the holiday was over on the drive back the leisure battery registered full each day and everything was used on 12v, showers, cool box, fans etc. I know that the battery is approximately 7 years old and it wouldn’t hurt to replace it, but any idea why the battery was not charging on electric power and possibly being discharged on site? Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I guess that just replacing the battery will not solve the issue. Regards Steve

It could be any number of things, but assuming Schaudt electrics for a Carado,  one easy initial check would be the (nominally) 20amp fuse on the Electroblock for the internal charger (probably marked "Internes Ladenmodul")
