The guy even said that he thought I'd got it wrong when he issued the demand! All I've got to do is send them the original invoice, even if it is in German and they will sort it out. Alas, I've still got to make the payment by the due date (Dec 1st) but if the dealer manages to get the original invoice back to me in time, the new figure should be worked out and there shouldn't be a problem. I just feel such a sap for not realising that the purchase price is not what HMRC wanted. Nevertheless, I'm also reasonably sure that the net price wasn't mentioned on the paperwork.
