Norma
Can anyone tell me if the Ecovip 1r has fixings for a cycle rack? I'm looking at the Omni bike 2 but don't know if we should go for the stancard or the short version.
bjphillips
I bought my 2000 Laika ecovyp 1r in 2002 & it was already fitted with a double bike rack but I dont know if the holes were already there for it!!!!As there is no signs of any bolt heads inside the body I asume there must be some plates within the skins. *-)
Brian Kirby
Unless you bought the Ecovip 1r new, and the bike rack was a factory fit item, I would be inclined to check exactly how it has been fitted. It is not unknown for bike racks to have been fitted using only wood screws, and for these to detach from the backs of vans when suitably provoked! No joke! The normal fixture involves fixings through the back wall of the van, and both Omni and Fiamma bike racks include internal reinforcing plates and through bolts. The fixing holes have to be made through timber packers placed in the rear wall of the van, so that it is possible to adequately tighten the bolts. It is the top fixings that are the critical ones, and with two bikes on the rack a rough road imparts considerable stress onto these fixings. As you cannot see the bolt heads and reinforcing plates I'd be very suspicious about what has been done, and very nervous about carrying bikes until it has been checked. Coach screws may be OK, but if in any doubt at all, check with the maker of your bike rack, and then cross check with the UK end of Laika.
