another weeks work at customers villa in Tuscany, then pick wife up from Pisa airport, then tour up coast for 1 week, F1 Monaco GP on the Sunday, then 1 week to get back, probably via Austria.

Then 2 weeks in September, going to Austria.

And at some point this year, 2 long weekends in north France (must use up the frequent traveller vouchers for the eurotunnel :-D )

Lake Garda sounds good.

We're off to France for 3 weeks in June, down the Cherbourg peninsula, the Vendee for surfing, a meander through the Dordogne to the Aveyron Gorges to visit our next door neighbours at their house in Bruniquel. After that possibly the med or we might well meander our way back through middle France.

In August we're spending a week in Dorset and a week in Cornwall.

Sorry to be boring but our main holiday this year with the van will be to Lake Garda (went last year and fell in love with the area) or may venture to Tuscany for a couple of weeks as our family raves about it every year.....as we are also going in September we may see you on the road - I will be the passenger waving happily!! :->

The tunnel is booked for the 22nd May and we intend to wander down towards La Rochelle/Royan, stay there for a few days and then wander back north stopping wherever the fancy takes us. We would both like to head for Italy but I don't think 2 weeks is long enough to do it justice.

We are going to Scotland August/September. 1st night in Edinburgh then head off up the west coast. Perhaps we might give Andy a push, if he's stuck up a mountain somewhere.

John.

We get our new Autotrail Cheyenne 660 at the end of May, get a gas tank, satellite dish and inverter put on it, have 2-3 weeks pootling round the UK to check it all works. ( Only going forwards though 'cos it's a FIAT!)

Then at the beginning of September set sail for Bavaria, France, Spain Portugal, Spain and France to be back home in time for Santa!

The trouble is the clocks are running very slow in our house and it's taking AGES for the dates to move on. I know you shouldn't wish your life away but 12 hours in a day until then would be just peachy :-D

Hi

Catch the Santander ferry (with dog) tuesday then 3 weeks around Spain - no fixed route but a little time in Almeria, definitely mountain biking in the Sierra Nevadas, then work our way back - it all depends!

Late June a week down Royan direction.

Nothing else planned yet but definitely somewhere in October.

Regards

Peter & Maggie

Thak you 'Judgemental' - we're so excited, we've been dying to tell everybody about our plans! Retirement coming up so can take the first long break, hopefully eleven weeks! Going to travel down through France, down Italian coast to heel and toe and then meander back up central Italy and back through France. Been taking advice from all experienced travellers to both France and Italy and just praying that everything works out. If not, we'll no doubt be onto the Forum asking our friends for advice. As 'Tomo3096' says "wishing your life away is not good", but we can't wait to get away!

Happy retirement Alan, glad to hear you're going to make the most of it and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves very much.

We have 3 weeks in Sept for our 30th wedding anniversary - can't wait. We plan to spend the first week in Belgium and Holland but are still in discussion as the where to go after that. I'd like to go to Lake Garda where some of you are going, possibly spend the second week there and then back up through France. Hubby thinks that may be pushing it, I'd be grateful for any comments from those of you who've already been to Lake Garda and if it's feasible to do what we're planning.

Apart from that we have booked the Fridays off before the 3 bank hols and going to Rhayader in Powys, Cheddar and Ross on Wye.

I’m genuinely quite envious, I can only add, go and do all you can while you can. Never miss an opportunity to experience a wrong turning and find yourselves away from the crowd and the tourist routes. Therein lay some real adventures. You will be a better balanced person upon your return.

Then like some of us older ones who’ve been on many wonderful journeys you can sit back and read about others whose adventures you would like to be doing. Don’t forget to tell us all about it when you return.

Like the time we got lost in Germany, we were chased away from one accommodation, it was an all male truckers stop! and ignored at another, at a third when we asked what time breakfast were told 6am. When we got up at 7 the whole place was empty and deserted, they really meant 6am!

Doing P'boro show end of next week, Malvern show in August and York/Pickering in Sept. Other than that the only plan we have is to go to the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon for August bank holiday weekend. We leave on the Saturday before and have a week to get there, Bank holiday weekend at the show then the first week of Sept to get back. Hopefully we can snatch a couple of weekend breaks in the meatntime too.

Did someone mention red kites?  They have a brilliant setup there and here are a few snaps I took on my last visit http://www.nodarkroom.co.uk/red_kites.htm (click on the thumbnails for a larger image)

There is some great accomodation close by and don't forget to take a slow tour around the nearby Elan Valley dams http://www.elanvalley.org.uk/visiting-elan/

OK, back to the thread.  We're off to worship at the shrine at RAF Fairford in July and have a four-day pass to sit in the stands for the best air display in the world.

We didn't go last year as we were outta the country but these are my snaps from the 2006 show http://www.nodarkroom.co.uk/iat_2006.htm

In September we're off to Deutschland for 10 days or so and will be heading down to the Bavaria/Black Forest region.

December will find us back at the German Christmas Markets for a long weekend.

Apart from that we currently haven't planned anything but are more likely to just shoot off somewhere at little notice.

Hi Carol,

We went to Lake Garda last year and stayed at Bella Italia on the southern side. The site is huge with many static sites and plenty to amuse the youngsters. Have to admit we were wary when we arrived (we had booked a week, using camping cheques). When we said it was just the 2 of us and we wanted to be near the lake we were escorted by a guy on a bike to a pitch just 20 yards or so from the lakeside and had superb views.

We had driven through the "noisy bit" at the top of the site - where all the night time activities are and can honestly say we were amazed how quiet it was on our pitch. We were able to walk to the local village and took many cycle rides into the countryside and local attractions (too numerous to mention).

The day we arrived there was a massive firework display just off the shore - ? our welcome party?

It was our first outing in our new 'van and we had allowed 3 nights stopovers en route as it seemed an awful long way on the map! Our first stop was in Belgium and nights 2 & 3 were in Switzerland - this year we will only stop for 2 nights on the way down. The driving is easy - hubby did it - and the roads great. By travelling through Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland (a route given on this site by more experienced travellers) we saved loads on French tolls and the fuel was cheaper in Belgium and even cheaper in Luxembourg as well.

We only had 2 weeks and were able to stay 8 nights in the end in Italy, taking 2 easy days to get back. The site we stayed on was within walking distance to the train station (Venice a short hop away), the Garda ferry (1 day trip around lake was superb) and there was a bus stop outside the site gate. We also had our car with us so were able to explore mountain areas too.

2 weeks is short but it is still possible to enjoy the lakes easily. If you go, enjoy, we certainly did. :->

Not sure yet, as we've just returned from one trip!

We're certainly going to Warwick for a week, with 20+ people from church, on a Baptist camping week (but that doesn't count as holiday!).

Before that, as soon as the schools break up, we'll have a couple of weeks probably in the UK - don't know if we can afford to get over the channel agin (although given the scarcity of "aires" in UK, saving in campsite fees in France would more than compensate for cost of ferry, so maybe ...).

Michele: I envy you that Canal du Midi trip - and Beziers is excellent.

(REST OF THIS IS REMINISCENCE, WHICH YOU CAN IGNORE IF YOU'D RATHER!) We first went there years ago, when we lived in Stockport (twin town). My sister was doing a year's teaching there as part of her mod lang degree, and I had a Bedford CF van - not a camper - so we offered to collect trunks from her & two friends at the end of the school year, in exchange for the cost of the cheapest available channel crossing (hovercraft around £200, which in 1977 was a lot of money!) So we took brother & his fiancee, threw 2 tents in the back of the van, and set off on our first continental adventure. We've loved SW France ever since!

Hi this is first time I've seen or written on this forum! Nice to hear from other motorcaravanners, and about their holidays. I am off to the South of France in July and can't wait. I am 60 and separated, and this year have decided to venture out alone. I have driven there loads of times so that's not a problem. Just wondered if there were any other women out there who have done the same and have any tips for me!

I hope the Vulcan is at Fairford this year. It had just come into service when I did my bit for HMQ. Many moons ago!

If you want to see Red Kites in this country I recommend the Chilterns. They are becomming very common and it is possible to see them within a ten mile radius of Watlington or Stokenchurch.

I am going to France in May. Down to see that bridge which I didn't get to at Millau in 2007. Then towards Albi and the Pyrenees. Then back home via Futuroscope (for a "bus mans" holiday).

We catch Sealink ferry 9pm 6th May for 2 weeks and think we will head for Brittany.

last year on our 1st trip we headed for Chamonix to see our son then to Annecy and south to Greoble and Monte Carlo / Nice and St Tropez. On our 2nd trip we headed south west through Bordeaux to Biarritz and then stopped at Honfluer on the way back.

When we get back from our 1st trip in May we are going to purchase frequent traveller tickets from Eurotunnel, so we can reach europe when we like in the next 12 months without having to make permanent bookings, thats what motorhoming is all about for us just get up and go when it suits us, not only that with the constant price increases of fuel in UK touring Europe has got to be the better option.

Well, it seems that lake Garda is a favorite destination again.

we nearly stayed at Bella Italia last year but they only have 4 amp electricity and our roof air conditioning needs 6 amp. but I like the idea of being walking distance from a towns facilities.... Forenella is an excellent site but not really walking distance and a steep cycle ride (for me anyway *-) ) into town.

Michele will PM you regards Christmas as we def going skiing as well, I like the sound of Le Escala at grand Bornard. But I think more likelihood of snow in December where you go..... perhaps you should arrange a Christmas forum meet :-D

Brilliant! I saw the Vulcan at RNAS Culdrose airshow in the 80's. It took off and landed twice - the sound and vibration was awesome.
