My favourite game was a 'made up' game we used to play at the office I worked in and it was called How's your Father. I think it was based on poker, but the object of the game was to LOSE. The loser was the winner. It took a whole lot of new strategies. Perhaps you could try it and let me know what you think? I always recall when I was about 8 years old and my new best friend fromschool came to tea. She only came the once!
