Cambridge Analytica and Facebook

The British data firm described as “pivotal” in Trump’s presidential victory was behind a ‘data grab’ of more than 50 million Facebook profiles, a whistleblower has revealed to Channel 4 News.

Don't let this guys geeky appearance deceive you......he 'knows his stuff' and worked for CA as research director. It's pretty chilling what he had to say.

Cambridge Analytica's boss is also under fire now for misleading MP's over the companies use of Facebook data.

Before anyone expresses surprise, just how did people think that all those spottyfaced billionairs at Facebook, Twitter etc., made their money. They read our mail and sell the information to the highest bidder, and we all had to sign the bit in small print at the back of the terms and conditions to say that we didn't mind, otherwise they wouldn't have let us use the internet.

The internet isn't for our benefit, it's for theirs.

They don't agree to it being stolen in a data grab by an unknown company though. Cyber crime is a criminal offence and that's what the pink haired nose piercing youth has blown open and talking about. Appearances can be deceptive....he knows what he's talking about......and after all he should do as used to work for GA as Research director.

On a similar level it's like any of us having our banking details hacked into. Never happened to me fortunately.......yet, but i did once have my ebay account hacked and the first i knew was when they shut it down and emailed me asking me to contact them by phone. They knew what had been going on, how it was done etc, but wouldn't release any info to me other than it had been hacked. Had to make a completely new account but that was about 10 years ago now and not had any issues since.

Serious deep state stuff now emerging from the murky world of Cambridge Analytica as Channel 4 news reported tonight. In one exchange, when asked about digging up material on political opponents, Alexander Nix, CEO of Cambridge Analytica said they could “send some girls around to the candidate’s house”, adding that Ukrainian girls “are very beautiful, I find that works very well”.

In another he said: “We’ll offer a large amount of money to the candidate, to finance his campaign in exchange for land for instance, we’ll have the whole thing recorded, we’ll blank out the face of our guy and we post it on the Internet.”

Offering bribes to public officials is an offence under both the UK Bribery Act and the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Cambridge Analytica operates in the UK and is registered in the United States.

Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham, "we should all be shocked and deeply concerned" is now seeking a warrant to access Cambridge Analyticas offices tomorow in London......but Facebook are already in there.

https://www.channel4.com/news/information-commissioner-elizabeth-denham-on-cambridge-analytica-and-facebook-we-should-all-be-shocked-and-deeply-concerned

Tory MP Damian Collins is absolutely right on what troubles him over this too!

https://www.channel4.com/news/damian-collins-mp-on-cambridge-analytica-and-facebook-mark-zuckerberg-should-give-evidence-to-mps

These companies tell users, who freely give them personal information, that their data is safe and secure.

And a lot of users believe them.

I wouldn't be surprised if they also believe that Father Christmas lives in Lappland - and the earth is flat.

Cambridge Analytica do much more than that though Malc......as Steve Bannon knows. ;-)

Cambridge Analytica claims it ran key parts of the presidential campaign for Trump.

The British data company was secretly filmed discussing coordination between Trump’s campaign and outside groups – an activity which is potentially illegal.

Analytica, bosses also talked about:

The full scale of their pivotal work in Trump’s election win

How they avoid Congressional investigations into their foreign clients

Setting up proxy organisations to feed untraceable messages onto social media

Using a secret email system where messages self-destruct and leave no trace

Cambridge Analytica’s involvement in the “Defeat Crooked Hilary” brand of attack ads

The board of Cambridge Analytica have tonight suspended chief executive Alexander Nix pending a full investigation.

https://www.channel4.com/news/cambridge-analytica-ceo-alexander-nix-suspended

But the debacle worsens as UK's Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham who sought a warrant to get inside Cambridge Analytica to access it's servers and computers, can't because she's still waiting for a judge to issue the warrant. Unbelievably inept!!

Congressman Adam Schiff on Cambridge Analytica: ‘The dark arts have arrived in full force online and they need to be feretted out’

I think there’s a bit of paranoia here a lot of people on this forum.

Potentially serious acts of criminality may have been committed both here and in the US. I'm old enough to remember when Watergate broke and the trail of havoc and chaos which ensued from that so the 'paranoia' is understandable. If this eventually knocks the orange parrot off his perch so much the better though closer to home, questions also need to be asked about CA's involvement in the Brexit campaign.

But the lax response to UK's Information Commissioner immediate request for a warrant is shoddy and pretty staggering.

.... just saying.

Are you Pelmet head the 2nd? :-S

I don't know anything about Hilary - so how could I start a thread.

( . and I have no reason to start a thread about her )

You are the one who seems to think that she's been up to something , so I thought you might like to tell us what you know.

As usual you back down when asked to explain your comments.

p.s. I didn't lose in the U.S. election - I wasn't a candidate.

Someones got a Trumpophobia really bad ... Not that long since a certain someone was seething at Russian collusion ...

Mueller's investigation into Russia's collusion in the Trump campaign is already ongoing and been subpoenaed.....or are you disputing that? Bit difficult as it's been in the news often enough as uncomfortable as it must be for you as a fanatical Trumpette acolyte. CA's now known 'activities' is yet another bitter pill for you to swallow.

"Dwindled to a nothing"?? Only in your love flames dreams who undoubtedly wished it had never surfaced!! (lol)(lol)

Going back in history to put it into perspective, Watergate first broke in September 1971 and Nixon resigned August 8th 1974......so 2 years 11 months to get that crook out.

As for a "second term"......yeah a prison sentence. (lol)(lol)

Do remember Woodward and Bernstein worked alone back in the day not like todays instant news , instant information world we live in ... But anyway can we pencil in that Impeachment Impending!! date for 3 years time ya reckon ??? ... "prison sentence" ... So now on top of your other forecasts when is this "prison sentence" taking place , before or after impeachment ??? ... You make me laugh

PM May quizzed in the HoC today over Tory party links to Cambridge Analytica and it's parent company SCL

https://www.channel4.com/news/prime-minister-quizzed-over-cambridge-analytica

In the US, many questions linger over the role played by Cambridge Analytica in the election in 2016 of President Donald Trump, with demands by investigators that Alexander Nix be recalled to face further questioning before Senate and House committees. Anger growing too among Senators highly displeased with Mark Zuckerbergs apparent total disregard for US constitutional law and more determined than ever to bring him to account.

Meantime as Facebook shares continue to plummet further, $57 billion over the past three days, and Zuckerberg on the run, Roger McNamee, one time mentor of Mark Zuckerberg and an early investor in Facebook says, "i think he's afraid"......not of the financial losses but their complicity in manipulating democratic elections. He feels Zuckerberg and FB exist in constant denial.
