Like what ? I would have thought it be a universal across a lot of motorhomes with the high lights fitted to the outside

Would not bank on that!!

Why not take one out , and go to Halfords/B&Q or such like

Make sure you get a stainless steel one ....if your not sure its stainless take a magnet with you the screw wont stick to it if its a decent SS one ...some will partly stick because they have a high content of iron which will rust slightly eventually .

The design of the high-level marker lamps fitted to motorhomes will vary according to the make, model and year of the motorhome and, consequently, it would be perverse to expect the lamps’ fixing screws to be standardised.

I believe baden87’s motorhome is a 2008 Auto-Trail Apache 634 model, but I had to search the forum to establish this.

I can fully appreciate that new forum members may not provide immediately visible details of the motorhome they own (assuming they own one of course!) as there is no encouragement to do so when first registering. But it does not seem much to ask that forum members who have participated here for a while insert in the Location field of their forum Profile details of their current vehicle that will be instantly visible on their forum postings.

The motorhome’s age, make and exact model should be sufficient - do it now. :-( :-( :-(

2008 Auto-Trail Apache 634 with Hella domed lights

Any ideas Derek ?

Is the marker-lamp on your motorhome as shown in this advert?

If so, the fixing screws are said to be M10 x 1

That information does not identify the fixing screw’s exact design (eg. what shape of head it has) but as you’ve only lost one screw, you should easily be able to to tell that from the remaining screws.

I'm not familiar with later lights but if they are two part the base used to fit to the van with self tapping or wood srews depending on construction of the van and the dome used to attach to the base by two smaller than m10x1" but thicker than the usual electric socked size machine type screws.

A dab of grease on the threads before reassembly should help to make 'em easier to get out next time and if you have the choice slotted are often easier to remove than pozi or phillips type.

Screwfix might be worth a try or maybe a box of 'em might contain the right size?

It might help if baden87 could post a picture of the lamp. In the meantime, I seriously doubt that the fixing screws can be M10, as that would be a 10mm bolt, and sounds far to large.

However, it is unclear whether the screw is one that holds to lamp to the motorhome, or one that holds the "lens" to the lamp. If the latter, I'd be surprised if the bolt is any more than M3 or M4 x whatever length. If the former, I'd expect it to be a PK (self tapping) screw. In either event, stainless steel would be the obvious choice.

If you are anywhere near a small boat chandler, Holt Marine do a number of "Pre-Packs" of stainless steel nuts, bolts, screws and washers - see here: http://tinyurl.com/y8xqbhdo

This 2013 MHFacts thread

http://forums.motorhomefacts.com/53-autotrail-motorhomes/108215-autotrail-roof-marker-light-cover.html

suggests that the ‘dome’ lamp used by Auto-Trail may be Hella Part Number: 2PF 001 650-001

https://tinyurl.com/ydygprju

The drawing on the Hella webpage shows a back-plate with a 5mm-diameter cable-outlet hole and two 3mm-diameter holes for attachong the back-plate to the vehicle. The lamp’s Description says

"Technical Information

Clear lens. Two holes for B3.9 x 9.5 fixing screws.

Side lamp”

This advert shows an example of a 3.9 X 9.5mm sheet metal screw

https://www.rapidonline.com/toolcraft-phillips-raised-head-sheet-metal-screws-din-7981-3-9-x-9-5mm-pack-100-51-3154

but it might well not be the type Hella uses.

As baden87 has removed the lamp from his motorhome and, consequently, has the other (non-lost) screw to use as an example, finding a replacement should not be too difficult. As has been advised above, using stainless-steel screws would be best, though I doubt Hella did this.
