oldsnips
My motorhome for the 6th time has stopped moving forwards in 1st gear when in automatic mode most recently in the second lane of a busy four lane roundabout. I now know that when this happens I can use manual mode and it will move straight away I had it computer checked for faults and it came up with accelerator and brake coherence ie. being used at the same time. It is possible that this could happen as the brake and accelerator are close together but not regularly. Even if you touch the brake and accelerator at the same time surely it should not do this as it is very dangerous in traffic. Has anyone had the same problem and what solution did you find. Thanks. Ninian
Hi, A few years ago although my MH wasn't auto, the fault was traced to a faulty brake switch as if when you were accelerating you were braking at the same time.
onecal
Hi You may need to do a deeper diagnostic check on ECU as well and fuse connections for resistance Ensure you get the following checked . Your throttle sensor, your Hydraulic fluids levels as this may be where your problem is Be aware that the power shift hydraulics controls the clutch actuator which in turn moves the clutch hydraulics, it has a position sensor(can go faulty) in the clutch actuator and it senses the position of the clutch.. Get the hydraulics bled using proper diagnostics equipment and note the colour of the fluid . Good mechanic/technician should solve this easily
weldted
Just a suggestion if it should happen again whilst still in auto mode pull the brake light switch off the pedal.obviously care to be taken regards any following traffic when trying this. Ours will not accelerate if the brake pedal is pressed when driving in auto. Our brake pedal always seemed slow to come up and this happened a couple of times a drop of silicone spray on the shaft eased it but eventually I removed the shaft as we were in France and am a auto engineer. There was a small piece of wire lodged in the shaft. Since then no further problems. Ours is a 2019 Comformatic 2.3 150.
oldsnips
Thanks for everybody's help. In the first instance I am getting a new brake light switch fitted since two forum members have mentioned this as a possible solution. If that does not work I will have to go to a Fiat commercial specialist in Canterbury, with my wallet open, as it has to be finally resolved.!! Brian Kirby
You don't say where you bought your van, but if in UK, isn't the Fiat warranty automatically extended from the standard continental two years, to three years on UK supplied vans? If a 2019 van isn't still under warranty, and even if that warranty was only two years, it surely can't be that much out of date. You say this has now happened 6 times. Have you take the van in a Fiat Professional (i.e. commercial vehicles) workshop as, from your post, it seems you may have been using an independent, who cannot deal with warranty issues? If it has been taken to a Fiat Professional workshop for this fault while within its warranty period, their investigation work should have been FoC under the warranty, and will have been recorded as such by Fiat - in which case the subsequent visits when the fault was not cleared will point to an unresolved problem that first arose within warranty and, as I understand the warranty, remains to be resolved under warranty. At the very least that should entitle you to a contribution from Fiat, though I believe should entitle you to the matter still being treated as within warranty. But, that does rely on the fault having been dealt with at some point by a Fiat Professional workshop while the van was within the warranty period. Derek Uzzell
Brian The background to Brian Parson's (oldsnip's) motorhome purchase can be found in the most recent forum thread that discusses an issue with the vehicle's overcab sunroof. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Missing-part-for-Swift-Spirit-Escape-2019/59785/ The Swift motorhome was originally sold new by Dolphin Motorhomes and Brian P obtained it in January 2022 (ie. 2 months ago) via a Motorhome Depot agent in Kent. As you are probably aware Motohome Depot acts as a broker between vendor (in this instance presumably the 1st private owner) and buyer. The Motorhome Depot buyers & sellers terms and conditions can be viewed here https://www.motorhomedepot.com/page/buyers-terms-and-conditions https://www.motorhomedepot.com/page/sellers-terms-and-conditions To the best of my knowledge, the duration of the Fiat 'mechanical' warranty for a 2019 Ducato will have been two years from the date of first registration irrespective of whether the vehicle was sold retail in the UK or outside the UK. If Brian P bought his motorhome in 2022 and it was first registered in 2019, the vehicle's Fiat mechanical warranty would have expired when he bought the motorhome. The implication seems to be that investigation into the ComfortMatic problem during Brian P's ownership has not been carried out by a Fiat Professional agent . Brian P has not said (and may well not know) if the previous owner had experienced this issue and - if so - whether it was investigated/addressed by a Fiat Professional agent while under Fiat warranty, nor whether the motorhome's handbook shows that the vehicle was serviced by a Fiat Professional agent at the mandatory 24-months point (or earlier). (My understanding of the Motorhome Depot operation is that they just provide a 'matchmaker' service, but the buyer/vendor transaction is essentially a private one. )
oldsnips
The motorhome is now out of warranty. I am having a new brake light switch fitted tomorrow as two out of three replies to my thread mentioned this as a possible solution. As the problem is intermittent it may take some miles for it to happen again if the brake light switch does not work. There is a specialist Fiat centre in Canterbury so that will be my next port of call if the problem recurs. With regard to Motorhome Depot's T&C's they make it clear that I should have checked for the faults when purchasing. The Motorhome however looked so good and the Vendors plus Motorhome Depot seemed so genuine that I felt confident that it would be a good purchase. That will teach me to be so trusting!! Derek Uzzell
This 216 forum thread may be off interest. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Ducato-MJ130-P2299-error/42462/ As Nick Fisher (euroserv) advised, replacing the brake-light switch should be the first thing to do. The part is quite inexpensive https://coastalmotorhomes.co.uk/fiat-ducato-peugeot-boxer-citroen-relay-brake-light-switch-14-on-1398492080.html and (I would have thought) fairly easy to fit.
