Keithl
From the C&MC website Coronavirus page... "Will you be reducing VAT on bookings? We welcome the UK Governments decision to reduce VAT on camping and are now looking at how this can be applied to members’ bookings. As soon as we have the full details from the Government we will make the necessary changes and inform members. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/coronavirus-faqs/ So looks like a 'maybe'? Keith. aandy
The C&CC have confirmed their position: "The UK Government have now issued their full guidelines on the cut in the VAT rate from the standard rate of 20% to 5%, we’re delighted that it does include touring pitches and we’ll be passing this reduction on to members. It comes into effect on stays from the 15 July 2020 to 12 January 2021. We’re working through details and will update members on how this will work and how it will be applied"
FunsterJohn
I foresee many arguments from innumerate motorhomes who think that a 15% VAT reduction means a price reduction of 15%, when it's actually 12.5%.
aandy
Surely if they are innumerate they won't be able to work what reduction has been applied.
FunsterJohn
aandy - 2020-07-11 9:35 PM Surely if they are innumerate they won't be able to work what reduction has been applied. They'll whip out their smartphones and deduct 15% from the retail price. When there was a temporary reduction of 2.5% a few years ago I was in Computer World and some bloke was buying something that had been £99.99. He was ranting and raving about being ripped off because it wasn't £97.50 and was nearer £98.00. The staff tried to explain how VAT was calculated but he wasn't having it!
