Ned Swift
Morning all I am looking to find a company to fit a towbar to my motorhome and have found a couple of companies that do this. Does anyone have any experience of having one fitted and can you recommend the company that did it? Thanks Articulated Ned :->

Keithl
Hi Ned, If you're anywhere near the Midlands then Towtal offer an excellent service. The one they made for our AT is probably one of the best looking I have seen. Keith.

Ned Swift
Hi Barrie I am up in Cumbria and was thinking about Towtal, I spoke to them last week and they seemed good but thanks to those people who confirmed my feelings on the phone. They get good feedback so I feel confident using them. It's a shame they are not nearer but I guess it is quite a specialised job. Thanks to all who replied, much appreciated Ned :-)

Keithl
Ned, The only downside of our Towtal towbar is that the paint finish could be better. It looked excellent on collection but after only a few months suffered paint chips and rust marks which now require constant touching up. It may be worth asking them if they can offer an alternative finish. Keith.

colinfrier
Are these one off towbars legal throughout Europe? I thought new rules say they must all be tested and approved. Here in Spain they look for makers mark and approval details when doing an ITV (Spanish MOT)
JasmineAnders
Beware of the Powder Coated towbars if your motorcaravan has a long overhang. Our van has grounded on a couple of occasions with the result that the coating got damaged and is peeling off and rust has set in. The bar is going to have to be taken off and stripped and re-coated or painted. There seems to be some dispute as to whether it is possible to have the coating removed by sand blasting. One workshop told us that the coating would not come off by that method and would just keep migrating along the bar.
Clive
Type approval for towbars is required for passenger cars. It is not required for motorhomes because of the diverse range and limited quantities of any one design. C.
