tonyfletcher
Hi Everyone, Is there an easy way (in the written form) on how to convert Decimal Degrees into Degrees Minutes seconds? Aire books show the co-ordinate in Decimal format. I know there are web pages that convert on line, but I do not want to take the laptop with me to France Cheers Tony

Andy_C
I know the OP asked for an 'off-line' conversion, but for those that do want an easy on-line converter, try: http://boulter.com/gps/ AndyC

Keithl
tonyfletcher - 2010-08-31 10:59 AM Hi Everyone, Is there an easy way (in the written form) on how to convert Decimal Degrees into Degrees Minutes seconds? Cheers Tony Hi Tony, If you only have a calculator (or an app on your phone) then there is a very simple way to convert from decimal Degrees. Take 12.392533º as an example. Subtract the whole degrees (12º) to leave the decimal fraction 0.392533º and multiply this by 60. This will give Minutes as a decimal fraction 23.55198' Again subtract the whole minutes (23') and multiply the remainder by 60. This will give the Seconds 33.1188" Round this to the nearest second and then write down the answer 12º 23' 33" It's even easier to do the calculation on a calculator than it is to write it down! Here's the key strokes as above... 0.392533 * 60 = - 23 = * 60 = Try it some time... Keith.
