arthur49
Check this website out - I have no experience of the 'best' aerial but trust Martin as an expert at Satcure http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/best_aerial.htm Arthur
bazooka
For use in this country I've found the status 530 ariel excellent. Baz
flicka
The Status 530 is a "Directional" Aeriel, IMHO an Omni-directional will always give better performance. The Status Omni-Directional is Model 315. http://www.gradeuk.co.uk/products/antennas/status.asp An alternative to the Status is:- https://www.roadpro.co.uk/retail/product_detail.aspx?prod=Glomex+’’Panorama’’+TV+Aerial&id=108 The Status 530 is a fixed mounting, whereas the Status 315 & Glomex Panorana have extension masts (normally located within a cupboard) so you can raise the Aerial, as well as move it's angle of direction, from inside the Van. Keithl
flicka - 2011-04-15 8:24 PM The Status 530 is a fixed mounting, whereas the Status 315 & Glomex Panorana have extension masts. Flicka, I think you have the numbers reversed in your last post. The 315 is the old fashioned 'flying saucer' that is fixed and the 530 is the 'boomerang wing' that you have to point in the right direction. And as for Mountain Bikers original question, "Best TV Aerial" then IMO it is one fixed to the chimney of the house :D :D :D (We leave the TV at home and spend time reading or talking :-D ). Keith. everhopeful
For best (or any) reception in remote places a directional aerial is a must. Unless you want to faff about with a long pole affair then you want an aerial mounted on the van. I have a 530 and it's very good, especially when you want to twidle it and it's ****ing down! To get the best from a directional aerial you really need a signal finder too. It's surprising what you can eke out of an aerial when you can see the signal level. Rayjsj
Agree, Status 530 'directional' aerial set above a cupboard, so that the mast can set down into it. Never had a leak around the 'roof hole' either,so the seal arrangement must be good. used with a signal finder (so you don't have walk around to see which direction everyone else has their aerial facing). much better than an 'Omnidirectional' (saucer). especially for digital. ;-) Ray Flicka, think you have got it reversed, 530 is the directional. DOH - :$ :$ :$ As Keith rightly says, I got it "A**e about Face" It's the DIRECTIONAL Aerial, Model 530 you need for best reception http://www.gradeuk.co.uk/store/product.asp?spc=04-3005/5&shelfid=44S45S1 This is also the 540 which is a long Mast model. So please ignore the link to the Glomex Panorama Aerial.

oldlowie
My 'van has a Teleco Wing, which is omni-directional, but can be pointed around 270 degrees. Only trouble is, it's on the roof, and I don't carry a ladder :-S :-S :-S
