Hi

We spent just over a week in Rome during September last year. We stayed at Happy Village & Camping which is one of 2 sites near Prima Porte railway station both are in the ACSI book. The campsite was excellent and has a reasonably priced restaurant & bar on site. There is also a shop but we found the shelves a bit bare whenever we went there. The campsite run a shuttle to and from Prima Porte station from where you can catch a train into Rome - it takes about 20 minutes and the terminus is fairly central. It is best to buy a 2/3 day ticket as this works out at 4€ per day return. There is a small supermarket around the corner from the railway station which sells most things fairly cheaply- particularly wine & spirits. They also sell half loaves of bread if a whole loaf is too much. We stayed for a week and that was not really enough time- we did St Peter's and the Vatican plus numerous churches & historical sites & also went to Ostia for a day, excellent trip & easy on the train. The campsite has excellent facilities, particularly the toilets & showers with plenty of hot water. If you want any more info just ask.

Ditto we stayed last year, great site with the best facilities we saw in 6 weeks. Mini bus can get over crowded and have seen couples split up so be ready for that. One  better half was left on her own on the station waiting for her partner. We offered to stay with her until her partner arrived but she was happy to wait on her own.

Some years ago we stayed at Camping Internazionale Castelfusano in Lido de Ostia, a campsite which claims to be the only Rome Campsite on the Med coast.

http://www.romacampingcastelfusano.it/en/index.htm

As well as visiting Rome it is also convienient for seeing the Ancient Ostia excavations, the old Roman port and a splendid renaissance village with the Giulio II castle.

When we stayed there the facilities were good but that was some years ago, maybe some forum member has more recent knowledge of the site.

Hi

Last year this forum recommended camping flaminio and we went end of April

http://www.campingflaminio.com/ENG/default.asp

The site is expensive but accepts camping cheques if you are out of the main season.

Facilities are outstanding and 5 minutes walk to station with a short train ride into central Rome.

Takes dogs if thats an issue - we had our Lab with us.

The only downside is the entrance is on Right off a fast road so take care + you have to cross that same road to the station albeit there is a pedestrian crossing by the gates.

Tiber camping is the other asci site and we found it very good for visiying Rome the site itself was great after a couple of months touring Italy clean toilets with seats which is rare and nice big hot showers. The free bus leaves every half hour to the station or you could walk if your brave, one city I will try to get back and see again

  • 4 weeks later...
As an update:- We stopped at Happy Village and Camping and we were well pleased. Friendly welcome on arrival, choose your own spot, facilities that would make CC jealous, free transfer to the railway station and a restaurant that had really good grub at fair prices. Once again thanks for recommending this campsite

Hi Don Its a bit too far to walk to the station from the site, but the free minibus runs quite regularly during the day (Sundays included). They have Wifi cost was about six euros for 24 hours, can't remember how much it was for longer.

Hi, its not a Camp Site, but if you wish to use a Camper Stop why not try this link

www.campertordivalle.it

I have used it twice over the years and found it ideal for visiting Rome, a short walk away is this station which gives you easy access to the centre.
