we had a folding Pennine camper years ago... 2 double beds and a kitchen unit with fridge (our own chest fridge from memory) that was about it....... fine in decent weather, but a very scary experience on the west coast of Ireland during a storm where we had to weigh down the A frame with rocks, it survived but some caravans on site did not! so pretty well built I think...

Hi Malcolm,

We had 2 Pennines before the MH.

First a 1991 Aztec 4 berth whose only facilities where a Spinflo gas hob/grill and a Whale foot operated pump in the floor. We bought it S/H in 1992 and it served us well for 13 years as the kids grew up and catered for our 2 weeks summer holidays plus odd weekends every year. We sold it to friends and it is still going strong.

Our next was a brand new Pathfinder 600 in 2005, top of the range with all the toys! It had running hot and cold water (Truma boiler under the seat) Spinflo hob/grill and full oven, a Dometic 3 way fridge, Sargent electrics and more than I can remember. The biggest down side was that to put all the awning up took well over 2 hours and if you tried to take it down wet, well forget it!

The kids then stopped coming on holiday with us so we traded it in for our current MH in 2008.

If you've got any more questions then feel free to ask.

Keith.

Many years ago we had a Conway Laser, easier & quicker to set up than a trailer tent, ours had a wind up solid roof over the centre section. Had a 2 burner hob & grill, fridge, I fitted an underfloor heater.

Biggest drawback was in cold weather the side bedrooms were very cold, when using in November we used to pull the curtains on the bedrooms and live & sleep in the centre section.

Just looked at current prices between 10 -15000, if you want to tow something you could get a better equipped Caravan for less and that would be usable all year round.

We had an Estrelle folding caravan nearly 20 years ago with which we were very pleased.

Before that we had a Pennine double fold out trailer tent which we had for only 1 year as we disliked folding the inside of the canvas over the top to pack up in the rain. Prior to that we had a Touring Sport from Denmark (later known as Combi Camp) for almost 20 years.

I believe Gobur of somewhere in east anglia are still producing folding caravans.

We have just got back from the C&CC site at Chichester and there was an Esterel there. It survived the 50mph winds that we had.

Have been in one whilst in France in 2009 and they seem just like an ordinary caravan except the high lockers are a bit low as they have to fit in the space between the seating and galley, and there are not too many of them either. The shower was a wet room type, but the couple that owned it loved it because it fitted in their garage at home, so presumably it is narrower than an ordinary caravan too.

We had trailer tent first, followed by folding camper as trailer tent just took too long to put up at weekends.

Loved the folding camper but in hind sight would have gone for one that included a loo, Conway Cruiser has a loo, we had the one below that.

Sold ours on Ebay and made a profit on both of them.
