Have been researching cycling along the canal paths and vineyard routes through the towns and villages of Burgundy for our next break in June. Has anyone done this before, advice on sites or aires and welcoming vineyards would be much appreciated!

Hi,
Not for some time , but yes lovely area. Have you looked up the "Green Way" well signposted, It goes from Macon to Beaune, quite a nice trip and brings you through some lovely countryside,,,,also well worth a visit is the vineyards of Bouzeron. The vineyard owners will make you very welcome.Just a note ,,,be careful of leaving your Motorhome in any Aire during the day ( as the IH with GB plates will stand out) when off on the bikes touring, Vineyards or Campsites might just be safer.
Regards,
Brendan

Hi, yes just done that holiday at Easter, try looking at following the Burgandy canal, plenty of aires around.

We also did Troyes, Joigny and Provins just to throw some culture in too.

Can give more info if you need it, google burgandy canal and you get loads.

Both, thanks for your responses. Been busy looking at routes alongside the canal and all looks wonderful. Looks like we will be spoiled for choice for sites or aires. Great wine, great cycling, hopefully decent weather (?) can't wait!

Yes, done that a few times recently. Website: http://www.bourgogne-du-sud.com/index.php/la-voie-verte/voies-vertes.html

Sites we stayed at are at Santenay, Camping du Source Santenay, that is very close to the Canal du Centre, with miles of lovely cycling. The site takes ACSI and offers 7=6 too, twice we've stayed there for a full week as there is so much cycling, through the vineyards as well as along the canals, to Meursault and even to Beaune, but that is a long trip!

Also there is an Aire at St Gengoux le national, not stayed there, tried last year but it was rather full.

Another site we stayed at was Cormatin, right along the Voie Verte on the former railway, which runs from Chalon to south of Cluny now. That is lovely too, as all along it there are waymarked routes off the Voie Verte itself, of varying lengths and difficulty.

Another site at Cluny, used that twice, for the more southern part of the Voie Verte.

We love that area and are in fact thinking of going there again this June!

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, the cycling is mostly easy, there is the occasional incline, but nothing too strenuous.

Ina.
