Does anyone want my business, cambelt change

Just a rant really, have emailed, phoned, numerous garages for a cambelt change, the latest one saying they would ring back in half an hour, that was 2 hours ago now, nothing from anyone else, including BT Fleet.

So in desperation can anyone recommend someone in the West Wales area, or the Midlands anywhere to the west of Birmingham please.

Before we bought our Transit based van I did look at Fiat. We bought the Ford because it would fit in our parking, because it was just at the end of Juddergate and also because of servicing. The Fiat web site gave 2 garages for commercial servicing reasonably close. I went to the first, a Fiat dealer, who weren't sure whether they could service a Ducato. I phoned the second and the voice on the end of the phone called out " Hey, Fred, do we still service Fiats?"

Since then I have joined this forum and discovered a couple of places which have good reports and are not too far away, but certainly too far to come home to wait. You would think that in London it would be better than that, but I suppose it reflects the fact that you don't see many Ducatos on the road except as motor caravans/homes.

We have our current van serviced and MOTd by these:

Shropshire Automotive Services Ltd

Oxon Business Park,

Bicton Heath,

Shrewsbury, SY3 5AL

01743 360370

Easy enough to get to(..on the western edge of Shrewsbury, just in,off the A5(Oswestry)/A458(Welshpool)roundabout),it's on a small, new(ish) business park, close to a park & ride and a pub that does food(..Oh! and not only five mins from a REALLY expensive, Morris Leisure owned campsite! (lol)

I've got ours' booked in for a new belt/kit and a service after the B/Holiday..and he reckoned that the belt and fitting would be in the 200-250 region (...although I suppose that remains to be seen!?).

They do seem to deal with quite a few MHs(..which I like because I don't like my vehicle to be a "novelty" to be fiddled about with!),although they aren't their main business, as they seem to have a strong motorsport/performance links("Mike Evans Motorsport", seems to be the other side of their business?).

It can't hurt to ask(..although I suppose it's a bit of a traipse for you).

Very many thanks for that, have now had Mike phone me back with a firm quote, very helpful and consequently booked in to have the work done next week, so thanks again. ;-)

Shall not be overnighting at Morris Leisure though as you say, very expensive the last time I enquired £25 a night. :-S

.....Business Park,

).

Good Call.

The local trading estate would be my first port of call too.

That is usually where the local motor factors / diesel engine specialists / bodywork repair shops are - the places where the retail motor trade go to buy their spare parts or get work done that is too specialized for them. What you buy from a retail shop or garage will have often come from there and been marked up at a profit by the retailer.

In case it may help in future, did you try this link: http://tinyurl.com/c7tloc6 ?

I did contact a main dealer T J Vickers in Shropshire, quote was £520, was not filled with confidence though as they said the water pump may need replacement at an additional £157 + vat if leaking, thing is on my engine the water pump is not driven by the cambelt at all, but a separate unit altogether driven by the auxiliary belt and is fairly easily replaced at any time without touching the cambelt, and I would know if it was leaking in any event..............makes you wonder given that incorrect information is there any benefit in main dealers, and their premium prices :-S Just to add insult to injury the Autodata time given for cambelt replacement on the 8140 43s engine is 1. 7 hours

But the link is useful to me for Fiat spares should I need them, so thanks for that. ;-)

..let's just hope, "..the bloke who does cam-belts..." works Tuesdays...!? 8-)

(lol)

I shouldn't get worrying, Mike said they are buying a Haynes manual, and his best mechanic with one eye is going to be on the job :-S

Just seen your post so probably to late but these guys do a cambelt for most Ducato base vehicles for £225.00 fitted. Fair way to go but just off the M6 so easy to get at, they are highly recommended as well. C & M Auto services at Lancaster tel. 01524 843721

I've posted before, I will not be using any of our 'local' Fiat Pro dealers for any work, they are useless.

I recently met a mechanic who worked at one of these. I wouldn't use them.

A rather blinkered view though. The mechanics who work at Halfords next to my unit are all good time served blokes, they do all our MOTs and have done several cambelts for our customers, they also did the belt on my work Ducato although I did my own on the Iveco camper (due again later this year) and on my MX5 hillclimb car as they are both relatively simple being north south engines rather than transverse.
