Motor home Shurflow fresh water pump

As the inquiry on the following link (also about a failed Shurflo water pump) was in early-2010, the advice may now be outdated. Nevertheless it might help.

Are you sure there's a fault with the pump? Ignoring the obvious (ie. your motorhome's water tank is empty), if the pump runs but no water comes from the taps, that doesn't automatically mean the pump is problematical.

There might be an air-leak between the pump and the water tank, or the water 'pick-up' in the tank has become detached, or a drain-valve between the pump and the tank is not fully closed allowing air to enter the water hose that leads to the pump.

Any of those things would prevent the pump from drawing water from the tank and, if no water is reaching the pump, the pump won't be able to deliver water to the taps.

Thanks for your advice. Yes definitely water in the tank, we filled up at the motor home point before setting up on pitch & have also looked in the tank, just in case.

Have checked all the pump fittings , all connections seem ok ie finger tight, so could be the pipe in the tank may have detached itself from the pump ? Not sure how to check this. Have tried to att a pic. .

Was hoping that as we are only just outside Benidorm somebody on the forum might know of a local mobile repairer.

As we are intending to be away until the end of June, would have liked to get it fixed.

Anyway thanks again for the advice.

John,

Two things to try...

1. Disconnect the outlet connection on the pump, connect a hose pipe to the pump (a screw on tap connector should fit) and put the end in a bucket. Turn on the pump. Does water flow?

2. If this doesn't work then refit the outlet and remove the inlet connection. Again fit a length of hose but this time put the end in a bucket full of water. Open a tap and then when turned on the pump should suck the water up from the bucket.

This will hopefully tell you where the fault lies. If 1 flows water out of the hose the fault is after the pump. If 2 sucks the water from the bucket then the fault is between tank and pump. And if neither works then the pump is FUBAR.

Keith.

You may find it is the pump will no longer self prime. Can happen when the diaphrams inside start to split but once primed will work ok....until water drains out again. Try opening a tap and sucking the outlet to help the pump prime.

Have you asked the campsite managers if they know of anyone, I would have thought if anyone knows they would.

We did go to the site office & although they had a leaflet they weren't local. We cycled to Camping Villasol as there had been mention on a previous thread about an English guy doing repairs & the reception did in fact have a card for Caravan Care , English. We phoned him & he said he would come out this afternoon or tomorrow morning. He arrived at 4pm checked the pump, said it was no good, phoned his supplier who had one in stock , went off & collected it within half an hour & new pump fitted.

Now happy bunnies as water now on tap. Cost of pump €109 & labour € 45 plus iva.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

For info. The guys name is Paul Caton contact 65 000 65 65. He covers Javea down to Torrevieja
