What to look for

I believe early Fiats 2007/2008 had problems with water ingress into the engine compartment. Can anyone provide photos/advice on what to look for to check the recall has been done. I am about to purchase a 2008 model and want to make sure the work has been carried out and I'm not sure how to tell. Thanks

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums.

I'm not sure that there was a 'recall' as such to cope with under-bonnet water ingress, but Fiat/Peugeot would implement various measures if an owner complained. These included fitting a cover over the motor's cylinder head, sealing the centre of the plastic scuttle moulding, increasing the diameter of drain tubes, etc. There are some photos on this earlier forum thread that may help.

Our 2008 2.3 came off the Fiat line in April 2008 it has the engine cover and we have never had any problems with water under the bonnet even in current weather conditions.

Our van only has the one scuttle drain on the right hand side we park on our drive which is flat with a slight downward slope, making the bonnet slightly downhill. I believe some people have had problems when parked on UK roads as the camber tilts the van to the left where there is no drain on the scuttle, it is an easy DIY mod to add another drain hole.

I'd check them all whatever the year. Just had the scuttle replaced on our 2013 model x250 ubnder warranty.

The small diameter drain hole on passenger side blocks up regularly and the new scuttle is still in 2 parts so has had the joint sealed with mastic sealant

Same here with a 2012 model, sealed middle joint with mastic, turned blue plastic insert, upside down in main drain pipe because it kept getting blocked and overflowing. Now acts as a 'downpipe cover' like you would have on your guttering. Also have to keep the 2 small diameter drain pipes cleaned out with a length of flexible 'net curtain wire'. Heath Robinson could have taught the Fiat designers a thing or 2.

Progress eh ! don't you just love it !

This thread may be of interest to you because Fiat have still not fully cured the scuttle leak.

My 2013 Fiat X250 still leaked, so I modified it to be waterproof - process and pictures can be seen here.

Hope this helps to save any expensive repairs in the future.
