Rac or AA ?????

Pampam

Recommended Posts

Sunday morning 8.30 am jumped in the van to go and see my dad who is critcally ill ,the van wouldnt start! After a dozen attempts it was obvious we were going nowhere , never mind sez i and pulled out my trusty rac membership card phoned them got put thru gave them my name and membership number :- sorry mrs pampam but you are no longer a member , what have you spelt the name correctly? (Often happens) yep i pay by direct debit every december and apparentley they havent taken it out .... Sent me the cards but not taken the payment so am not a member (been a member 22 years jointly with hubby) anyhow they could make me a member but only one of us so ive been running about thinking i was covered when i wasnt ,and in the middle of dashing to see my dad had to get my bank details out etc and was going to be charged the same as when we were joint members. Anyhow in anger i told em to shove it!!! And my good old sister diverted and picked me up to go see pater (he okay now) and ive joined AA which reminds me id better cheque my account to see whether they did take payment out in december : and vans still in garage and i should have been down in exeter tonight in a hotel but got to see if van starts when cold in morning (so been expensive week with aa membership£256, £772 for van and loss of hotel £108 cheers pp:))

Hi

Sorry to hear all your sad news, as for which membership ? I was insured (car) which included for first year, free breakdown cover, our bank account also gives us free breakdown cover and as we have our car serviced at a Ford garage it gives us breakdown cover each year

Be interesting if we ever broke down who would get there first (lol)

Sorry to hear all that Pampam but not surprised. I fell out with both of them many years ago for similar reasons. Anyway I needed help a few weeks ago and without thinking I phoned bank's breakdown (can never remember which one that is!). He eventually turned up, after about 2 hours with me left on a very narrow, isolated road, upon which he refused to go down the hill because he had come in a big truck. "You will have to find a tractor to get you out", said he! With the help of a young motorist this was accomplished at my cost (expensive) but the breakdown (AA or RAC?) never contacted me to see if I had managed to be towed out. Admittedly I had panicked because the m/h was well and truly stuck, mist coming down (in Cornwall) and phone signal very intermittent. If I had had my wits about me I would have phoned my other breakdown firm (which is in Germany) to see if they were more efficient. I did use this firm once in France and found them excellent and only about £60 a year, if that.

Have Green Flag via caravan club.

Quite a few useful extras for the motorhome.

Also covers motorbike and car.

£126 for joint cover.

Me too. I vowed not to use the AA again after I cancelled membership because I got cover with the new vehicle. The girl persuaded me to put my membership on hold to preserve benefits rather than get a refund. When I later tried to get the refund I was told that the refund option was only valid for a short while, so I lost my £30.

Sorry you are having such a stressful time, we use green flag and they have been amazing with us, called them out 3 times in last month and they have got us going every time, even more surprising renewed last week and premium did not go up.

Hope you have happier times soon,

Lynne

For the last 50 years I've never had any paid cover and have always been prepared to deal with emergencies as they arise.

The savings are now approaching £12,000

I always deal with local cover. at the time.

Check that your van is actually covered - the AA and RAC (and others) often have a limit on the size and weight covered !!! Usually 3500kg max.

Alan

But with the RAC if you join the Camping & Caravanning Club 'Arrival' scheme this lifts the limits and gets you a discount!

I am just about to renew ours at a very similar price to that quoted above but have noticed it includes legal cover so I'm going to call and ask if I am being charged for it. If I am then I am going to decline it and reduce the premium.

Keith.
