hallii
My Hymer window frames are stuck in with a black sticky non set mastic. I need to do a bit of re sealing. Any idea what the black stuff is? H
Billggski
I think it's gutter sealant, it stays flexible.
Keithl
Have a look on CAKTanks website for caravan sealants. I'm sure Sikaflex do one in black (and it will be far better than gutter sealant for MH windows). Keith.

George Collings
Items like window frames that might need removal are usually bedded on non setting butyl. You can get it in tubes or as a removable paper backed roll. It would seem that the inspiration for its invention was someone try to clean the proverbial from a blanket. Its stickyness means it gets very dirty and you may find that the top surface can be scraped clean but before long it will be black again. If the problem is a leak that has been located additional sealant will bond to the old if its been cleaned. Getting an old joint apart is fun. Butyl behaves like a first cousin to chewing gum and forms long tenacious strings. Prolonged gentle pressure and a sharp knife will slowly get things apart but makes sure to pad any levers and spread the load avoid damaging bodywork etc. I have collected a number of discarded tough plastic kitchen tools and find these can be shaped to make useful tools for this sort of work.
