Does it Duel Charge

Perhaps a little bit more info may generate a better response.

I would hazard a guess the charger is produced by Sterling. However, even within the Sterling product range, some dual charge and some don't. So, you need to provide the model number.

Hi Steve,

If you have the standard Sargent unit then the answer is both Yes and No.

When you switch on the control panel it will default to the habitation battery if you then press the battery change button it will change over to the engine battery and the red light alongside the switch will illuminate.

You cannot charge both at the same time.

Keith.

Edit. You can download an instruction manual from Sargent's website...

And Sorry, I got your name wrong first time :$

Hi Steve,

I've just looked at the wiring schematic for your 2005 Apache and it seems you have the manual/analogue style of control panel (probably over the hab door) along with your PSU2005.

And hence after reading the instructions for the PSU2005 I have to agree with you that you are correct and have no way of charging the vehicle battery from the PSU2005 :-(

If you want the ability to charge both batteries from your PSU 2005 the best solution I can think of is to fit a 'Bridging Fuse'. Here is a link to an article explaining how to do it.

Hope this helps.

Keith.

Clive’s ‘bridging-fuse’ ploy should be the cheapest approach, but it’s pretty basic and cabling still needs to be installed between starter and leisure batteries.

Alternative ‘fit and forget’ devices that pass charge from the leisure-battery to the starter-battery are available. These are two examples:

Thanks Keith/Dereck

I will consider having a mod fitted.

The problem when my 80 kW solar panal developed a fault for two years it has kept both leasure and cab batteries in good order.

The engineer who originally fitted it is coming to look at it on the 13 th Jan hopefully to rectify the fault.

My storage compound has a temporary electric supply so I thought I could keep both battery topped up while help came.

Cheers for the info

The battery manager as Dereck has specified is a brilliant piece of kit dead easy to wire in, 3 wires, 1 to cab battery, 1 to hab battery and 1 to earth. I fitted this to my last 3 vans and never had a flat or run down cab battery, it also works well with solar panels.
