docted
Re Midges it will also help if you start anti-histamines three days before you set off until three days after your return. It doesn't deter the midge it does make living with the bites easier. OP If you are going to go to the sites you mention, any Caravan Club Sites, in this area usually require booking in advance as they are all very busy thru summer
veletron
Midges are flying teeth! If you do get some of the blighters on your van, turn all the lights out bar a small spotlight shone on a while/cream surface, wait for them to gather and then hoover them up en masse with a 12V vaccum! even without the vaccum, the spotlight will keep them entertained while you sleep at the other and of the van! Bl00dy things! Oh, and its Loch Ness, and Loch Lomond!! Beware of the new camping bylaws around Loch Lomond and elsewhere in the park. Wild camping whether in a van or a tent is set to be banned after the recent approval of some new laws. It sticks a brick through the middle of our superb land access laws and right to roam up here. Shame that the few have spoilt it for the many. Nigel

We were going first class anyway!. But you will need to book as early as possible.
yeti
I have been informed that anti histamines such as Piriton do not have a prophylactics benefit, but Marmite on toast for brekky does! Or if you don't like Marmite take brewers yeast tablets at breakfast. Avon Skin So Soft is used by the foresters!
louisekay
Have been on the train well worth the money and going first class, had two single seats over a table views fantastic.
gordonaldson
I must add that according to London (they added 2deg to their temp last year) we had the warmest year in history. But the truth is Scotland had the worst Summer in History with barely a day without rain. So it pays to check the weather forcast even though its rarely right. As too a route 66, the Moffat A701 is one of the best with even a Brewery enroute to Edinburgh or city Bypass north. The Brewery is at Broughton by the way. Bigger is just off the road.
