That would be a reasonable point if they were body searching every person and thoroughly stripping every vehicle that's passing through? are they doing that....? ..or are they just being bl**dy minded because it's the only border that they can "easily" check (..and to be "seen" to be checking). Albertslad
pelmetman - 2016-07-24 12:41 PM Hopefully once Marie Le Pen wins the French presidency they'll be a little more accommodating :D ........ http://www.politico.eu/article/french-socialist-predicts-le-pen-presidency-france-elections-boutih/ Perhaps you can explain to the rest of us? What's the attraction of ultra right wing political parties? I hesitate to use the "F-word" but it scares me to think that so many countries worldwide are quite rapidly steering in that direction Regards Alan b

I see it more as a reaction to decades of left leaning governments of every hue B-) ....... The centre has been slowly dragged to the left....its now being dragged back to the "right" side :D ...... Judging by the obviously unfounded and transparent promises that some were dim enough to fall for, (ie. untold extra million to be spent on the NHS etc, total control over borders etc etc ), promises that having won many people over, just melted away within hours, I agree in that there is very little doubt that "they" make up a section of that majority...... I doubt very much if the majority of the electorate have based their vote on the spin from either side ;-) ........ Nevertheless its pretty clear to me, the electorate across many EU country's and in the USA, appear to be moving to the right side :D ....... I wonder if May will call a snap election given the state of the Labour?........seems like too good an opportunity too me (?)........

Bulletguy
spospe - 2016-07-23 8:42 PM malc d - 2016-07-23 7:08 PM WE do let everyone go out - it's the French who are being careful about who they let IN. Not so. I was talking to one of the UK security team at Dover last year and he said that they were upping their checks on outgoing travellers, so as to catch criminals fleeing the UK for the more relaxed Costas. He quoted two cases he had dealt with, one was a migrant worker wanted in connection with a murder in London and the other was a bail jumper. Yes they don't like me leaving UK. I get stopped every time and asked where i'm going, how long for, how much cash i have and the van usually gets searched. I'm surprised they haven't yet forced me to replace the steak knives for plastic ones. *-)
Geeco
A few years ago I drove from Spain into Gibriltar with no delay in crossing the border control from the Spaniards. On the way out and back into Spain it took over an hour to exit. In the months prior to that time there had been much dialogue between Spain & UK on handing back Gibriltar to the Spanish. The delays in Dover could be for a similar reason - politics!

When I was stationed in Gib in the mid to late 70's the border was closed, I bought a new car, tax free whilst there B-) ......... To get it back to the UK I had to get the ferry too Tangiers, then back too Algeciras in Spain .........Bit of a pain, but a well established route around the border at the time :D ....... The Spanish hypocrisy over Gib is pretty ironic when you consider they have TWO enclaves in North Africa...Ceuta and Melilla *-) .......... Maybe we should tell them, if you give them back yours.......and will give you back ours (lol) .........
