Eberspacher Combitronic Deluxe

Hi

I have the above system fitted to a 2005 Autocruise Sarasota. I am having problems using the mains accommodation heat settings. When switched on the fan runs for a few seconds and then stops, there does not seem to be anything happening on the 240V side. Checked electricity meter, no speed up of wheel. The system works fine using diesel and the I can heat the water using the 240V setting. I have spoke to several 'experts' who state that this model does not support mains heating but there is a setting on the control panel. Any help comments would be appreciated.

many thenks

Hi David, Welcome to the forum,

You seem to be correct in that the 'Deluxe' version does have 230 volt air heating whereas the 'Standard' model does not. Perhaps this is where your 'experts' are getting confused?

Do you have instructions? If not I have found them to download as a pdf file here... Link

Would I be correct in guessing by your wording that you have only just bought this MH and hence have never experienced the heating working? If so could you possibly contact the previous owner to ask how it works?

Let us know how you get on with the instructions and ask if you still need help.

Keith.

I had a 2005 Autocruise Starlet 2, which also had the same system, it consists of the main diesel heater combined with a Calorifier/boiler with an electric element and a seperate electric heater/fan unit.

I really liked the system, as you always had heat and hot water as long as you had diesel in the tank, but you had to have a good powerful battery to get the diesel heater lit and started.

If you cannot get heat when running on EHU only, i suggest a fuse to the combined Electric heater /fan unit,

Does the fan circulate the heat generated by the diesel heater ? Although i believe that to be supplied by 12v.

250v heating element has a seperate fuse and switch as i recall.

Thanks for your replies. I do have the manual, it was reading this that I realised there should be mains heating. I have had the M/H for a while, I have spoken to the previous owners who were told that there is no mains heating. This was their first M/H or caravan so no real experience. The only other owner had it from new, have not been able to contact him. Regarding 240V fuses the only one I have found is a fused switch by the control module and this is OK. Does anyone know of any other fuses and if so where they might be? There is no trip on the MCB for heater but there is one for the water heater and this is also ok.

many thanks

I had exactly the same van for 5 years, and Yes it should definitely work on 240v (And is MUCH more effective the than the Truma 240v effort!).

I assume you've checked the fuses in the Sargent control panel in the top locker?

Also, under the bench seat where the unit is located, there is a mains isolator Switch and Fuse (mine was in a little black box).

Check all of the wires going into the blue control box are correctly seated.

I've dealt with a few specialist service dealers and thought they were hopeless, but Auto Electrical Services in Leighton Buzzard were Very good, so give them a ring

In the bed box, near the boiler, should be a black fan unit with the blown hot air tubes coming out, this also contains the mains heating elements (at least it did on my Autocruise of 2005) leading from that should be cable to an led lit switched fuse, which can be switched on/off when the bed is in place. This switches on mains power 240volts to the heating elements in both the heater and the boiler. The actual control is from the Combitronic electronic control panel. I was very pleased with the performance of mine, even in mid-winter we were toasty warm, and had all the hot water we needed for showers etc., far better than our present Truma Combi unit.

Thanks to you all for your help. Spoke to an excellent chap at Espar, Plymouth who has put me on the right track. I am getting power to the control box so now need to check out if the power is getting to the heater. The eberspacher agents I spoke to locally would only look at the diesel side, it seems as if you need an boatyard for mains problems.

This type of heating, is used extensively on boats, or the equivalent make (Mikumi) , though of course would not be on mains very often!. Maybe worth your while contacting a marine engineer, as it looks as if you may live near Plymouth? At the age of your unit, maybe something has worn out? We had this heating on our boat, and at 10 years old did have to replace a part, (can't remember what part now) Good heating , pity more manufacturers don't use it in MH
