Snooper's Charter

Recommended Posts

I gather the Snooper’s Charter has been passed into law today. So, I guess all my Posts on this Forum will now be subject to scrutiny by the powers that be, not just other Forum members and the Mod, and any that are considered unacceptable will result in my being brought before the Courts.

So, I guess any mention of non-PC topics will no longer be permitted. Also any looking at naughty websites may be construed as sedition. Talking of naughty pictures, does anyone remember when Hymer used to print brochures of their motorhomes and there was always a naked lady using the shower room? My wife did ask why it was not a German male, but I did reply ‘have you seen German males?’, they are even fatter than UK males. They would not fit in the shower room. All that beer goes somewhere. At least that was my excuse.

Now seriously I am all for having security but is this not just a tad overkill??

I think your posting might be a tad exaggerated - but, just in case you are right, and some of them are reading this - can I just mention that I think our government, police, MI5, firemen and the NHS are all absolutely wonderful.

Guest pelmetman

My guess is that the snoopers in the first instant will be computers looking for key words like......Semtex, bomb, suicide vest, Downing Street etc etc ;-) ........

Reckon I've single handedly ensured this thread has reached their attention 8-) ........

You can joke about it but the danger is those campaigning for an Elected Head of State, or a Written Constitution, could be targeted by Her Unelected Majesty's Spooks. So apparently they are using VPNs https://www.theguardian.com/technology/askjack/2016/nov/24/how-can-i-protect-myself-from-government-snoopers

They keep trotting out this emotive rubbish its to protect kids, but the websites where children have been groomed or bullied into suicide are not porn sites but ordinary websites like facebook or whatever other websites kids use.

Wheras Sir Jimmy Savile KCSG OBE etc didn't even own a computer.

John, I find it difficult to give your posts serious consideration because they are so often peppered with sniddy irrelevancies like having a pop at the Queen and Jimmy Saville in this one.  OK, so you are a republican and you think Jimmy Saville was allowed to get away with far too much.  I get that.  How about giving those hobby horses of yours a rest so we can see through the repetitive crap to your arguments as relevant to the current topic.  We're not idiots on here so banging the same old drum as if you were trying to rouse the ignorant mob on the street corner isn't going to cut much ice.

Well if you are happy with an unelected Head of State I suppose you would deride those who want to be given a choice. But it is still relevant to a Snoopers Charter. On the one hand we have a highly secretive Unelected Head of State exempt from even the Freedom of Information Act. But at the same time, and at the other extreme, they want Carte Blanche to spy on the plebs.

The fact is any criminal or terrorist with half a brain knows how to get around this, so we are either trying to protect against the terminally stupid, or the average politician doesn't realise this, or the law has been brought in for other reasons, take your pick.

It may well be that all this info is being gathered already, and they just want to make it legal by passing a new law.

That's the thing with the internet, no-one knows where our information goes, or who is collecting it - which is a good reason not to give too much away.

I was trying to be light hearted in a way, but there are concerns about just who can get access to this data and it inlcudes organisations that are quite a bit removed from what i consider security operations. Especially as some of these organsiations have a record of re-selling data to other Companies for marketing etc.

Of course we are all told that there will be safeguards in the system and that only certain people within those organisations can approve the access, but as we all know that rarely works in the real world and it is almost certain non approved people will get access. The other thing that concerns me is that we seem to be moving away from the principle of innocent until proven gulty to one where if 'we' say you are guilty it is up to you to prove otherwise. Not quite so rosy in my book.
