I suppose they would prefer to drop bombs from planes like Britain does.

But since they haven't got any they steal a lorry instead.

Thats war.

I envy countries with Governments like Switzerland that keep out of it.

.......And the folk you're making excuses for also actively target civilians *-) ..........

But I guess its not their fault.....its the way they were brought up :-| ........

Oh shame ... Maybe like John says he came from a deprived background ... Maybe a bit of compassion from us , a kiss and a cuddle now and then and he might not have gone on to slaughter innocent folk ... Poor misunderstood little darling

Not making excuses.

Just that some say all's fair in iove and war.

I would rather avoid war like Switzerland does.

Their origins are Schwarzwald area of Germany and are about as "traditional" to Switzerland as winter snow is to Britain. Swiss just flog them to tourists buying overpriced tat who think they've bought 'something Swiss' because it says Switzerland or Schweiz on the front.

It gives all Swiss a good laugh.

Might be good instead of attacking two totally legit politicians , who as far as Im aware haven't murdered anyone nor do they support such horrendous acts we actually celebrate the capture of this thing ... Although Im afraid his death will make him even more of a hero to the many who support the slaughters these things carry out in the name of a fictional God of dubious character

Will you be calling for a ban on all Scots entering England if they were to win a second referendum and I suppose you'd want any who voted Leave who live in England to be escorted to the border too

Yet Britain can't stay out even when its surrounded by sea.

Correct. Regime change and meddling in other countries is not for them.

However they really wish they could change Blatters nationality and deport the embarrassment!!

From what I can gather from various news sources this terrorist from Berlin wasnt even religious. According to his brother and friend who were interviewed on film he drank alcohol and never prayed so WTF was it all about? No virgins for him with our without STD's then.

Well done the Italians for topping him but what a cock up that he was here in the first place. Turns out he is Tunisian, served three and a half years for burning down a refugee camp and they did try to deport him back to Tunisia but the Tunisians refused to have him back claiming he wasnt Tunisian so we got stuck with him. He was also under surveillance for six months.

Religious or not these terrorists fly in the face of what traditional ISLAM stands for and for what the majority of peaceful Muslims believe. They are nothing more than radicalised thugs. They do not concern me as they represent a tiny minority of backward thinking fruitloops. These are the very people genuine refugees are fleeing from. They need stamping out and it appears that this is exactly what is happening. I refuse to right off an entire race / religion / group of people (Whatever) just because of people like this nutcase. It goes against everything I believe and was brought up to believe.

It might feel like terrorism is on the up but statistically you have more chance of being struck my lightening or dying falling in the bath than being killed by terrorism in Western Europe. Many many times more. There is also much less terrorism in the west now than there was in the 70's and 80's.

https://www.statista.com/chart/4093/people-killed-by-terrorist-attacks-in-western-europe-since-1970/

Schengen or no Schengen these sorts of pockets of terrorism will go on as long as the west meddles in the middle east. By blocking refugees or being afraid of anyone who looks a bit middle eastern your playing directly into the hands of these monsters.

So hopefully then going on your refusal to right off an entire race / religion or group of people , you don't see anybody who questions immigration , refugees , Muslim problems as right wing nut jobs , unlike someone else on here who does ... Given that UKIP received 4 million votes from folk in the 2015 election nearly 13 percent of the turnout who were quite happy to vote for Nigel , a fella you quite clearly hate it would only be right you would think for you to dislike all those who like what Nigel says ... After all they are thinking exactly what Nigel is thinking ... How can it be right to hate the man at the top but not hate those who believe in what he believes in ... You could also say the same for Trump followers ... Another fella you hate but a fella that had more than half the American vote agreeing with what he says ... Curious , Huddersfield ;-)

The Berlin attack is the first major attack Germany has experienced but Amri certainly wasn't devout Muslim by any means. Drinking, petty thieving and arson where he ended up doing time in a Sicilian prison and described as "shy, silent and difficult". In short he was disillusioned and felt disenfranchised, prime fodder for any warped political ideology......a bit like Mair who immersed himself in various white supremacist group websites, literature, and worshipped Breivik.

Things seem to have gone wrong not just between German and Tunisian forces but between German states. He came under surveillance when living in North Rhine-Westphalia and met Iraqi Abu Walaa, a known jihadi preacher. A regular informant told German police back in July that Amri was planning an attack. A surveillance team monitoring phone calls to Abu Walaa's group intercepted a call where Amri was heard offering to carry out a suicide attack. Yet neither that nor the police informant were taken seriously and Amri was eventually written off as 'an errand boy' because no evidence was found of any planned attack.

Amri was later arrested yet again, near Lake Constance for carrying a false Italian passport. Police held him at Ravensburg pending deportation, but that fell apart when the refugee centre in North Rhine-Westphalia where he'd made his unsuccessful application for asylum, told Ravensburg police to release him. That's when he went entirely off the radar and the rest we know.

Remaining must be good for the rich.....nothing changes. What is strange in the 1975 referendum was that the remainders won with over 17 million vote's, nearly the same amount of vote's that the brexit's won this time.

Dave

...............................

The "Yes" campaign enjoyed much more funding, thanks to the support of many British businesses and the Confederation of British Industry. According to the treasurer of the "Yes" campaign, Alastair McAlpine, "The banks and big industrial companies put in very large sums of money". At the time, business was "overwhelmingly pro-European", and Harold Wilson met several prominent industrialists to elicit support. It was common for pro-Europeans to convene across party and ideological lines with businessmen. John Mills, the national agent of the "No" campaign, recalled: "We were operating on a shoe-string compared to the Rolls Royce operation on the other side". However, it was also the case that many civil society groups supported the "Yes" campaign, including the National Farmers Union and some trade unions.

Much of the "Yes" campaign focused on the credentials of its opponents. According to Alastair McAlpine, "The whole thrust of our campaign was to depict the anti-Marketeers as unreliable people – dangerous people who would lead you down the wrong path ... It wasn't so much that it was sensible to stay in, but that anybody who proposed that we came out was off their rocker or virtually Marxist." Tony Benn controversially claimed there had been "Half a million jobs lost in Britain and a huge increase in food prices as a direct result of our entry into the Common Market", using his position as Secretary of State for Industry as an authority. His claims were ridiculed by the "Yes" campaign and ministers; the Daily Mirror labelled Benn the "Minister of Fear", and other newspapers were similarly derisive. Ultimately, the "No" campaign lacked a popular, moderate figure to play the public leadership role for their campaign that Jenkins and Wilson fulfilled in the "Yes" campaign.

One for Paul.

The border crossing you were talking about in the 70's at Helmstadt wasn't your typical border was it ;-)?

It was only on very few occasions I was held up, and that was in the truck. As long as the paper work was correct then it was simple, I always made sure (if at all possible) to arrive at a border when I was due a rest-break or to overnight.

It was bad enough! Not the most favourable places to cross in Germany. Lives were lost at that border crossing, other people simply "disappeared".....taken off by Stasi. Get caught with something as innocent as a pile of Beatles LP's or Levi jeans in the boot of the car and they'd be gone, and you'd get a brow beating interrogation before getting kicked out.

The Purple Witch, Margot Honecker, died earlier this year defending the Stasi and DDR to the bitter end. I have East German friends and one of them, her mother went to school with Margot Honecker. She was an evil bitch then and nothing changed when she married Erich Honecker. In fact many saw Margot as more evil and dangerous than Erich.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/07/margot-honecker-the-purple-witch-of-east-germany-dies-aged-89/

I returned to Helmstedt a few years ago to breathe in the nostalgia! Some East Germans call it 'Ostalgie'......others call it something else! Everything is still there, all the buildings, detention area, even the searchlights and watch towers. It's a museum now and there is a service area right by it so i stopped a couple of nights there. They do good meals and espressos!
