Has anyone else had problems with clutch going on Fiat Auto Trail Excel 670B. Only done 14,000 and clutch has gone without any warning signs at all. :'(

PS.Engine and model year would help.

And please could you explain what you mean by 'Gone' (?)

For example, has the pedal sunk to the floor or the vehicle lost drive or won't change gears?

Keith.

Or has it run away :D

Not sure, heating system has gone wrong and garage was taking it to have this checked. So I wasn't driving it at time. Have been told it just went and that it was something to do with the plate. I am contacting garage tomorrow as thinking of complaining to Fiat have heard that engine and gearbox was designed for panel van and not for a Motorhome weighing approx 4 tons putting excessive loading on clutch

The warranty of a brand-new vehicle may exclude clutch failure, or cover proven mechanical breakage of a clutch for only a short time (say 6 months maximum). So there’s little chance that any vehicle manufacturer (never mind Fiat) would entertain a clutch-failure claim for a 2010 vehicle that had covered 14000 miles when the failure happened.

The Excel 670B model was not huge and (according to this review)

https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/motorhomes/reviews/motorhomes/details/auto-trail-excel-670b-2010-motorhome-review/898861

had a maximum overall weight of 3300kg.

The 2.2litre powerplant was a Ford-derived unit (similar to that fitted to the Transit) and there’s absolutely no reason to believe that the clutch and/or transmission would have been inadequate or under-specified for a motorhome with an Excel 670B’s specification.

If you are going to complain to anyone it should be to the garage, as it was one of their staff that was driving when the failure occurred.
