So much for the Daily Mail version *-)

The reality is all newspapers are struggling as more people read free online, and advertising revenues are reduced due to competition from the likes of Google. Guardian still has a big readership. But it has been hit harder than most because its readers tend to have more sense than money, so are less attractive to advertisers

Exactly that (bib). Many online papers including the Torygraph have also gone subscription. Apart from it's usual daft drivel i've no idea why The Wail consider this "newsworthy" at all as they shipped their printing out of London four years ago! The Guardian has always been a Manchester newspaper and originally called The Manchester Guardian though it's HQ remains in London.

Just another non-story. *-)

What "begging bowl"? :-S

It's not gone subscription but don't be so naive to think your Beano rag will enjoy eternal exemption. It's circulation is only 7000 more than The Guardian so it's future is far from secure as more people turn to online news media.

Guardian chose not to have a paywall like the Torygraph (easily bypassed by deleting your cookies by the way, others can be bypassed by also going through google search) because they don't want to exclude the poor.

Some newspapers have more readership than others, but that doesn't mean they are better newspapers does it?

Years ago a TV producer put it something like this. No-one ever went bust by under-estimating public taste. We could produce a perfect opera and get an audience of 20 thousand. Or we could televise live birching from the Isle of Man and get an audience of 20 million :-S

Right wing is supposed to favor the free market.

Whats right wing about restricting the housing supply with the world's most onerous planning restrictions, whilst throwing taxpayer's borrowed money at the demand with so called 'Help to Buy - forcing up prices' *-)

Currently in Folkestone where Sir Roger DeHaan (inherited SAGA from his dad and sold it for £1.35 billion) bought Folkestone Harbour for £11m and is being showered with Grants to develop it.

Looks more like Left Wing Socialism for the rich. http://www.folkestoneseafront.com/category/news/

Judging by the crowds they used to attract I guess more people would pay to see a public execution than by a serious newspaper?

I guess less money is spent on serious newspapers than is thrown away on these seaside slot machines, and similarly rigged games on the pier. Lots of money wasted on junk :-S

But the point I am trying to make is the Daily Mail's salacious made up stories might get them more readers than a paper that prints the truth. That doesn't make the Mail a better paper though does it?

Obsession with sex perverts is very popular in prisons I understand because such people like to pretend there are others worse than them.

I haven't seen anything about the Huddersfield case but then I haven't gone looking for it. When the Guardian does report on such things it tends to be factual like your Malaysian link,. But, unlike the Daily Mail, the Guardian is not afraid to question the lynch mob like this: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2002/may/28/childprotection

Whats happening in Huddersfield doesn't concern me because its already being dealt with. .Just seen the Guardian report on Malaysia. I suppose such people are several centuries behind Britain - as I recall a past King of England married a 12 year old girl (and we are forced to accept his descendants as our Heads of State)
