MidLifeCrisis
I think I've found my ideal motorhome but it's through a private seller. Does anyone have experience of RAC, AA or other pre purchase inspections? Thanks
Bop
I can't help you with your question MLC, but how about posting up the van type and the year of manufacturer and some of the experts can help you with your pre-purchase analysis. I'm always up for a good van debate ;-) Cheers, Andrew

Thanks Hi MLC, Try the Mobile Caravan Engineers Association http://www.mobilecaravanengineers.co.uk/ I've never used them but they do have a presence at the big shoes. Keith. But only if you want an in-depth analysis of payload and all sorts of assumptions about how you'll use your van *-) Good idea about a pre-purchase inspection and an MCEA member will be able to help. aandncaravan
The Mobile Caravan Engineers Association guys would be able give you a good idea on the Motorhome habitation side, but you would need to check that the particular man you choose also knows Engines, Gearboxes, Chassis, Disc Brakes, etc. as little of the training is aimed at this side? Conversely, the majority of RAC type 'testers' will be Chassis/Engine biased with little knowledge of the Habitation side and zero on the electronics. I would suggest you might want to consider a 'double' check using both?

More expensive but will cover everything for peace of mind.
Billggski
Try the owners club for the make you are looking at. Not only will they do it for free, they will know the difference things to look for, persuade you to join and bore you stiff with endless anecdotes! ?? MidLifeCrisis
Thanks all, helpful advice. In the end it fell at the first hurdle - I found a site called Cazana where you can check the MOT history for free, and it was a shocker! Another weekend trawling eBay and Gumtree. 8-)
