W3526602
Hi, My Garmin is getting old. I have found that it tells me to turn left (or wherever) in 100 yards ... just as my front wheels pass the corner.. More recently, since moving to Milton Keynes, it takes a long time to locate the satellites. On one occasion, I had reached my destination (three miles) before it found the satallites. Any ideas?
Keithl
When did you last update it?
Rayjsj
My Tom Tom 1005 Camper edition seems to be getting dementia too. Very slow in giving turning instructions, very similar to the posters Garmin problems. Also mine freezes and ignores the touchscreen, only a power off back on, seems to wake it from its slumbers. I have lifetime upgrades for the UK map, but ' lifetime' can mean as little as 5 years !! So Tom Tom have told me. So the promise is meaningless and a con. I upgrade the map and software regularly, and have done since i bought it. But it seems to make little differance. I think 'planned obscelescense' is the problem. I avoid 'built in' sat-navs like the plague. At least you are not stuck with a portable model....you just buy another one and throw the old one away. Try doing that when half of your dashboard is entertainment system.
Derek Uzzell
W3526602 - 2018-08-18 8:19 PM ...Any ideas? 602 I have an elderly Garmin Nuvi 1340 sat-nav and a more modern Nuvi 2559. The 2559 is significantly quicker at acquiring satelites than the 1340 and will do so in locations (eg. inside a house) where the 1340 cannot. The 2559 also has ‘lifetime mapping’ and useful features (like Trip Planning) that the 1340 lacks. You haven’t said which model of Garmin device you have, nor how old it is, but if it’s painfully slow to acquire satellites and unable to provide timely directions, you’d be best to replace it. If you wanted to stay with Garmin and not pay too much money, you might consider purchasing the DriveSmart 50 Europe LMT-D 5 model that’s currently advertised by Argos for £99.99 https://tinyurl.com/ya3wujdx http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/sat-nav/1405580/best-satnav-2018-the-best-satnavs-to-buy-in-the-uk https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/524681
Billggski
A Garmin lifetime is not the same as your lifetime, as they make clear in the small print. It can be two years if you don't update it. http://www.garmin.com/en-GB/legal/lmdisclaimer
StuartO
Old Garmins may be slower because they are older than modern ones but they can also get cluttered up in their processing memeories like any computing device. There will be a factory reset option; if the manual does tell you how ring Garmin's UK Helpline, it's free and they are very helpful.
