Hi,

The defence against an accusation of slander or libel is to prove what was said is true.

I have a suspicion that it is still a tort (?) to say something that IS true, but intended to defame.

I often wondered if writing a Civil Service Annual Staff Report, while wearing my "Hatchet Man" hat could make me vunerable to an accusation of Libel. ???

Pretty hard to prove Corbyn a communist especially since he isn't.

So then it comes down to damages.

If the Mad Hatter called me a communist it wouldn't do me any harm, (few would believe him anyway) so damages would be too small to claim.

But if a credible person called Corbyn a communist it could be expensive as it would damage his election prospects?

Which is why he doesn't admit to being a Communist *-) .........

Unlike his brother ;-) ..........

Tyrants have a long history of latching on to Socialists, Communists, Capitalists, and wherever else they can get a foothold.

Politicians like Hitler, Thatcher, Churchill etc needed an enemy. If they join one side they can present the other side as the enemy, and themselves as the saviour. Without an enemy they struggle to find a major role for themselves. Like Churchill after the war.

PS: Hitler had actually had a Jewish girlfriend. But he needed an enemy and the Jews were an easy target.

More Tyrants may have latched on to the communists because they are easy to join - like the Church.

I dunno......I reckon the scores on the doors are pretty equal between Communists and Socialists ;-) ........

I guess there must be some kinda latent nasty gene in their leaders that only surfaces when they become leader >:-) ...........

I wouldn't label them Capitalists or Socialists because they will do whichever suits themselves.

Like the so called Free-Market Capitalist Tories who turn Socialist when it suits them.

Tory Government intervention in the housing market to prop up prices - Socialism for the rich posing as free-market Capitalism *-)

If not, why do you think it would be libellous to say someone was not in the armed forces?

Because he's effectively calling me a liar ;-) .........

Which does not constitute libel.

Libel is a written form likely to defame or cause serious harm to a persons reputation.....such as posting on a public forum implying a person to be a 'Muslim rape apologist' or 'Paedo sympathiser' both of which are libelous statements.

defame

verb

damage the good reputation of (someone); slander or libel.

"he claimed that the article defamed his family"

synonyms: libel, slander, malign, cast aspersions on, smear, traduce, blacken the name/character of, give someone a bad name, defame someone's character, sully someone's reputation, run down, speak ill/evil of, back-bite, run a smear campaign against, calumniate, vilify, besmirch, tarnish, stigmatize, disparage, denigrate, discredit, decry, insult, lie about, tell lies about;

I reckon you've ticked all of those boxes ;-) ...........

Still desperately clutching at straws i see. How far do you think you'd get bringing a legal case on the pathetic example you gave? Bring it on....i'd look forward to seeing you ending up in the same financial mess as Hopkins, and like her, all through your own foolish arrogance.

A sensible thing to do would be to look at the evidence, and then form a conclusion from it. B-)

Wheras the Mad Hatter forms the conclusion first, and then searches for evidence to suport it (lol)

ignoring all the evidence that contradicts it (lol)

Really? ;-) ........Has Corbyn ever denied being a Communist? :-| .........

Damned if I can find any evidence that he has??? :-S ...........

Although there's plenty to suggest he is >:-) .......

Although there's plenty to suggest (corbyn is a communist).

there is in the tripe you read. (lol)

Can't see any proof though

This is what a communist has to say;

No. He’s left Labourite. I’m a communist. Corbyn would probably like to see a postcapitalist society, but that’s not what he advocates as a politician, which is more social services, higher taxes on the rich, and an end to discrimination. His politics are pretty typical for the mainstream Western European left. Why doesn’t that make him a communist? Communists want to overthrow capitalism, abolish private property in the means of production, and abolish wage labor in favor of a free association of producers. We’d also like to abolish markets if it’s possible to have a functional society and do so. (I’m not convinced it is.) If Corbyn holds these beliefs, he keeps them to himself. But, as the Old Man said, the communists disdain to conceal their aims. However, that also means we don’t stand a chance in elections in bourgeois democracies.

I don't know.

You are effectively saying he cannot deny being a communist because he is an honest politician.

Mad Hatter shoots himself in the foot again :-D

If he was honest he'd either confirm or deny ;-) ...........

All your Comrade Schwartz has confirmed is, if Corbyn admitted to being a Communist .....he'd be unelectable >:-) ........

If he was dishonest he would say whatever you want to hear.

But if he wants to deal amicably with the world outside the EU now you Brextremists have alienated us from it - much of which is communist, he may not want to give himself any label. Especially since any sympathy with communists will have him compared to Stalin etc in the Tory Media.

Wrong Again (lol) Actually Shwartz 'confirmed' something else which you simply ignored because it doesn't suit your prejudices - 'communists disdain to conceal their aims'
