leisureguys
Im shopping around personally for a motorhome, upgrading from a trailer tent which is quite a big move. Ive seen a couple of motorhomes I like but wanted to get an idea on how much they would be for insurance? Im looking at motorhomes that are about 15 years old? Yes I have a business website on my profile. Thanks Donna
StuartO
At least you won't have the problem of owning a MH which is too expensive to insure, which can happen. Premiums depend (unless you are a high risk driver) on the value of the MH and so one which is 15 years old will command a premium of maybe £300-£500, depending on postcode and where you store it. Worth trying for a multi-vehicle policy or discount if your car insurer does those.
leisureguys
OH wow didnt realise that could happen, doesnt make much sense though making motorhomes that cant be insured. Thank you for the advice it is much appreciated. Which companies are best to use? thanks Donna
PJay
best to shop around Donna. The cost depends so much on where it is kept, (post code) your age, and driving experiences (Accidents?) Do you need overseas cover etc. As said expect to pay £300 to £400. The value 15year old van , etc. We paid about £400.00 for our van from new, sold at 12 years old this year.Ours was stored in a recognised storage site, with security. Also how many miles you will do per annum, counts. Best of luck with your search PJay

Some companies will not offer policies for certain risks, etc., etc. You have to shop around as no two people will have the same circumstances. Here is a list of popular companies to get you started... https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/motorhomes/traders/motorhome-insurance/ All the best in your search. Keith. rooster63
I have used Adrian Flux the last couple of years (they are a broker). My 10 yr old PVC came out at £178 for fully comp with a few extras like legal aid . Touch wood only had to use the insurer for a replacement windscreen as chip in wrong place, no problem at all. The only downside is that when I enquired about adding my son in law for a week so he could borrow the van it was about £70 as the broker charges a fee. Keithl
rooster63 - 2018-12-14 2:08 PM I have used Adrian Flux the last couple of years (they are a broker). But be warned, some of the policies that AF offer are 'NET' policies and do not accrue NCD. So when you try to change insurer you have to start all over with NIL NCD!!! It may seem cheap at the time but could cost dearly later. Keith.

My classic car policies always have been, and two of the last three insurers I've used for the van (LV and Comfort) were/are the same.

Sorry but have to disagree Andy, I moved from AF after three years and have since always had policies offering NCD, even when including limited mileage. Keith. I can only speak for the insurers I've used, but Comfort and LV do not give NCD and neither has any of the classic car insurers I've used in 30 years of owning classics. I can't remember details of the policies I had on the previous van, but few if any offered no claims, with the only one I can recall that did being Axa. rooster63
Have just checked my Adrian Flux documents and it says I have accrued 11 years NCD which is protected. there is also a table showing how my NCD would be affected if I made a claim. Seem to remember when I went to AF last year i had to prove my current NCD which I think might have been from Comfort for one year (1st year I had the van) and they took proof from my car insurer (car since sold) hence the 11 years NCD. Derek Uzzell
Although someone may have been driving vehicles for, say, 40 years without ever making an insurance claim or ever been claimed against, that person’s no-claims bonus won’t reflect the full 40-year period. As indicated here https://moneyfacts.co.uk/guides/insurance/how-a-no-claims-discount-works/ common practice is to base the insurance-premium maximum percentage reduction on a period of 5 claim-free years.
