Keithl
Where is the manual switch located? Typically AT used to site the relay somewhere close by to the switch, like inside a cupboard or wardrobe directly behind the switch. Can you follow the switch wiring? Keith. Alanb
In line with the reasons given by Keith, the step relay in my PVC is located at the back of a kitchen cupboard, close to the manual switch. Omnistep/Thule's standard scheme includes a 2200 MFD capacitor in parallel with the relay coil. An alternative relay may be purchased here. plwsm2000
Unless you already have a separate diode wired in across the relay coil, you should use a relay with a built in diode to avoid arcing across the switch contacts. Something such as this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/High-Quality-12V-20-30-Amp-5-Pin-Relay-With-Diode-Optional-Bracket-EU-Manuf/131348827790
