Victron recently published a book about "electrical wiring of systems containing batteries, inverters, charger and inverter/chargers". A must read for anyone tinkering with their MH electrical systems.

Cheers. Now that Allan is no longer with us I'll enjoy this read

It's for scientists is'nt it. Too complex for me for sure.

No! The explanations are quite simple, and build up gradually. To me it seems common sense that the reistance of a cable will increase in proportion to its length.

For the more technical, there is an error on page 52. I am sure that pwlsm2000, and others will find it.

Also, a very comprehensive whitepapers section on various issues: https://www.victronenergy.com/support-and-downloads/whitepapers

This in particular is probably most relevant as it goes over battery technology and charging: https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Book-Energy-Unlimited-EN.pdf

Just the one error on page 52 Alan? :-)

I didn't proof read the whole book but couldn't resist your challenge. The "x Power factor" should be on the right hand side of the equations (or "x" changed to "/") and also Cos(90) doesn't equal 1 !.

I think the first few pages are quite good and give some basic knowledge, but it quickly gets over complicated for the average motorhomer. It is far too focused on inverters rather than a general guide and there is a lot of information that is completely irrelevant to most motorhomers.

It also has tried to simplify some topics at the expense of understanding. For example on page 11, it implies that current increases when the voltage drops. While this may be correct for inverter inputs and other devices that use a switching power supply, it is completely wrong for most other loads such as lights, heater elements etc.

An important topic that it should have covered (IMO) is derating cables when bundled together.

Nethertheless, it is still a useful intro. to basic electrics .
