jay0dea
Hi, the issue i have is the hot water in my bathroom sink tap isn't working. Every other hot and cold water tap works including the shower. Even the cold water works in the bathroom sink but when i change it to hot nothing happens really just abit of air noises as if its trying to bleed but no noise from the submerged pump in the fresh water tank. Also if i leave on my kitchen sink hot tap then run my bathroom one the hot water works fine. As soon as i close the kitchen tap it stops in the bathroom. I had also noticed when i look underneath the sink that when i turn the tap off the hot water seems to flow back down the pipe about 16 inches and then stops . All dump valves are closed at the hot water tank which is a truma . The caravan i have is a 2008 sterckeman romance 565 PE. Also we're brand new to this caravan. Tips and advice would be appreciated ??
Derek Uzzell
Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums. The symptoms strongly suggest that the hot-water-supply microswitch of the bathroom sink tap has failed. https://www.practicalcaravan.com/advice/how-to-replace-a-tap-micoswitch-in-your-caravan
Paul-
As above, the easiest way to test if its the microswitch is to open the hot tap and then open the cold slightly, just enough for its switch to operate
Tracker
Or you could switch hot and cold inlet pipes at the tap and see if the problem changes.
jay0dea
Thanks for the tips and advice ??. I'll try them out and let ye know how i got on. Its a small enough first problem for me to fix ??
Ocsid
Typically it is a very easy DIY task, the issues are generally limited to identifying how to get into the top of the tap, and physically getting access to the wiring connector under the tap; two things to check pre starting. If you put up a picture of the tap so it can be identified, there ought to be one of us who knows how the top of the tap is accessed. This might be either via a screw hiding under a plastic red/blue insert or unscrewing a rod type handle, I have had both.
Derek Uzzell
There’s a 2008 Sterckeman brochure here that indicates the layout of a Romance 565 PE model. https://ncbbrochures.s3.amazonaws.com/mainbrochures/2008_Sterckeman_Brochure.pdf I THINK this model has a ‘posh’ washbasin and tap as shown in the attached image. I was going to suggest that, rather than attempt to replace a failed microswitch, it might be better to replace the complete 12-years-old tap. But if the tap is the type shown in the photo, that might well not be the case. If the tap is a Reich “Trend S” model, there are instructions on changing a microswitch here https://www.leisureshopdirect.com/water/caravan-taps/reich-taps/reich-keramik-trend-s-single-lever-mixer-tap-spare-parts#ppSpecs%5Biframes%5D/0/ (It might also be worth Jay0dea asking about this on the Practical Caravan forum that concentrates on caravans) https://forums.practicalcaravan.com/

Keithl
Tip: If the lever has a small red/blue button hiding the fixing screw then put the plug in the plug hole before trying to pop the button out, otherwise the Law of Sod will probably apply! jay0dea
When i took apart the tap one of the micro switch wire's was disconnected they seem to be a one piece job so i ordered a new one. I did a temporary fix on the switch... just basically pared back some of the plastic coating on the wire and fixed it back in, and the hot water tap works perfect. But i will fit the new one when it arrives. Thanks for all the advice.. I'm sure ill be posting for more again in the future
Tracker
Glad you are sorted, just need to be able to use the darned thing now! There is a wealth of experience available FOC on here - just 'tap' into it as required!

I'm sure ill be posting for more again in the future If your washbasin tap is a Reich Trend S model, this 2014 MotorHomeFun discussion may be of interest https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/kitchen-tap-reich-trend-s.90711/ A replacement Reich microswitch unit (image attached) for this tap is widely advertised on-line, with an asking-price from about £5 upwards. There’s a LONG (26 minutes) YouTube video relating to a Trend S tap microswitch problem and this also mentions wire disconnection. The tap in the video was removed for attention and the microwitch was ‘repaired’ not replaced. Although it’s clear that the microswitch unit itself is easily accessible, replacement will require removal of the tap’s cartridge to allow the new microswitch’s wires to be fed through the tap’s body to emerge from the tap’s base. Cutting the wires free from the old microswitch (leaving those wires still running through the tap) and attaching the new microswitch’s wires temporarily to the old ones should permit the old wires to be used to drag the new wires through the tap’s body (Maybe!!) As I touched on earlier, this Out&AboutLive forum concentrates on motorhomes rather than caravans. There is an O&AL forum (“Caravan Chat”) for caravans https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Caravans/Caravan-Chat/1/ but it should be apparent that activity there is minimal. There is a reasonable amount of technical overlap between motorhomes and caravans (fridges, heaters, taps, etc.) but, if you have questions that specifically relate to caravanning, you’d probably get better feedback from a caravan-oriented forum like the Practical Caravan one.
