Well poll or no poll I guess we will find out soon enough. Lets face it, anyone who thinks Johnson has done a good job in the year he has been PM is in denial and needs urgent help.

Brexit. A complete train wreck with the worst still to come.

Covid. A complete train wreck with the worst still to come. Highest running total death rate in the world at one point

The Economy, it tatters with the worst yet to come.

Starmer just about every time in PMQ's shows Johnson up to be the incompetent buffoon he really is. Starmer really doesnt need to do much at all. So far he has played it brilliantly. Just keep feeding him his own rope.

Slowly Johnsons own back benchers are turning on him now.

I shouldnt make predictions apparently but it doesn't look good for Johnson long term. This is the problem you see with people like him who just feed you lie after lie after lie. It takes a while but eventually even those that are heavily invested in him will have to admit he is not fit to run a bath let alone a country.

Really? ;-) ..........

Looks to me that Boris has consistently polled at or above the 43%/44% with which he won the election B-) .........

Its the whimpy Liberals who keep flip flopping >:-) ...........

I dunno why you keep posting that chart that shows how much the gap between Labour and The Tories has narrowed. (lol) I was posting about their leader anyway, Doris. His days are numbered. As I think are the Tories (see above) eventually but Doris wont last the Tories full term for sure I reckon.

"but Doris wont last the full term for sure" ... I got a feeling thats guna be added to a very, very long list of bloopers from our resident political expert Barry ... Im guna go and chuck £100 on the opposite, its just about a nailed on guarantee to win

How many times did 5 Belly's Barry tell us No Deal was dead? (lol) (lol) (lol) ..........

Nope. The first priority is to get shot of Johnson. He is doing a good job of that on his own. Dont need to do anything. Look at how his popularity has already shot down and like I said the grumblings are starting from within his own party. His days are numbered. Unless of course as I say he pulls off some fantastic Brexit deal and everyone lives happily ever after and Covid free. Good luck with that.

On R4 Today this morning reports that his own back benchers are running out of patience with him. Suddenly it seems the worm has turned and its now ok to be critical of the moron.

Then just take a look at this. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/jul/11/competent-likeable-decisive-keir-starmer-beating-boris-johnson-on-all-counts

Thatcher a believe won her last election with an even bigger majority than Johnson and she was two years from having to call a GE and had a majority of 100 plus, but started slipping badly in the polls when the Poll Tax started going sour. She was dragged out in weeks screaming while her loyal membership wept. All the ingredients are there now I think and without doubt the party is brutal, there will be no shortages of Brutus' ready with their knives taking great pleasure in doing the deed.

Johnson has a massive hill to climb to redeem himself. Not only does he have to get a grip on Coronavirus, the economy and Brexit. A lot of the new Tory MPs are very concerned. Those that were newly elected don't want a no deal. No deal was ruled out as a Brexit option because those new tory areas will be decimated by it.

I think he is on the skids. Good job.

It's all a bit sad, really.

Fundamentally it seems the Conservative party has lost its marbles. Their current membership is a little under 200,000, and they have elected as leaders, in succession, Cameron, May, and Johnson. Hardly an impressive role call. Their party membership is predominantly over 60, instinctively conservative (small c :-)), London and south east based, middle class, male, white, Telegraph and Mail reading. Therein lies the problem. They like things as they are, and prefer unsettling things not to be mentioned. They occupy a cosy illusion about the nature of the country, and aren't too comfortable with the misleading nature of that illusion being pointed out. One might almost say they are complacent.

All three recent leaders turned out to be shallow thinkers, more preoccupied with appearances than substance, with winning rather than what to do with the prize, and with a focus on the short term rather than on the longer term consequences of their actions. That suited the membership.

Our problem is that with our electoral system we need them, but we need them to be led by true statesmen, not passing opportunists. The same can be said for Labour and the Lib Dems. The other parties are largely preoccupied with single objectives and, as with UKIP, are pretty much destined to die if/when that objective is reached.

So, where have the statesmen all gone, or do I just have rose tinted memories of people who, having identified the national interest, set out to see it protected whether electorally popular or not, and to tell the electorate things they didn't want, but needed, to know?

Excellent summary.

I blame the UK media, mainly dominated by tax avoided billionaires,

or the BBC which is effectively under the thumb of the Government.

So, where have the statesmen all gone,

As I recall BoJo deselected what was left of them when they wouldn't follow his orders :-S

I blame the media.

Their turning Jimmy Savile into a star shows how much power they have got

re: Rishi Sunak

During those Covid briefings/updates he was the only one who came over genuine and competent (with mininal, if any, time-filling waffle).

I don't pretend to understand the long term implications of the policies he has implemented, but he has certainly helped workers and businesses over the last few months..

;-)

Small business owner points out '

'The government’s decision to give businesses a £1,000 bonus for each member of furloughed staff they still have on their books in January only rewards the biggest players for keeping on staff that they would have brought back anyway.'

Reputable companies like Primark are refusing it

What she needs is for (Tory supporting) landlords to reduce their rents like they are in other countries

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/aug/01/cafe-london-small-businesses-survive-covid-19

But Rishi Sunak has his fingers in his ears
