Average punter would have to hold the max £50,000 worth for about 30,000 years to win the jackpot. But back to topic I'm sure ther politicians would like to continue going abroad and being treated like Royalty because they are giving our money away. And continue strutting their stuff on the world stage as a big spender. But, unlike you, they are beginning to realise the catastrophc cost of Brexit. Taxing the super rich in Her Majesty's Tax havens is not an option for them because they would lose the support of the 'newspaper' owners that brainwash clowns like you. There is only so much more they can raise in stealth taxes. So now they have to save money where they can.

John52
Today followed the familiar pattern - UK shares and currency falling and everywhere else rising. FT is full of dire predictions for the UK economy, especially if we get no Brexit deal. Most recommended comment is 'Covid ; a sharp mostly unavoidable exogenous economic shock somewhat exacerbated by poor handling by HMG. Brexit- an even bigger chronic long-term economic shock, without mitaging benefits, that was entirely avoidable and which is entirely owned by current HMG and their party. --------- Even the Government can't ignore it any longer; Rishi Sunak told MPs that borrowing by the UK Government in 2020-2021 is set to be the highest ever in peacetime, as he warned the country of "the worst economic contraction in more than 300 years" 8-) ---------------- Of course they will try and blame it all on Covid, not Brexit But even BoJo stooge Sunak can no longer deny the dire state of the economy. They wouldn't be cutting foreign aid if they didn't have to. They would rather send money abroad than to the rough sleepers in Westminster. Like the Kray twins - gaining popularity for themselves by giving to charity money they have forcibly extracted from others.

That is the problem with a purely American portfolio. My shares have done quite well given the circumstances and have proved to be without large up and down swings. Maybe you can afford to buy a Porta Potty with your dividend. :D
John52
747 - 2020-11-27 4:32 PM USA shares went up recently under Trump but will not do so well under a new Democrat regime. Wrong again Trump and our own mini Trump are the exception to the rule - the only Conservative politicians I can think of who are so bad the markets prefer their leftie rival. US shares have hit a record high on hopes that Trump will leave. Wheras UK shares have under performed the rest of the developed world on fears of another 4 years of BoJo :-S

S&P 500 is not a purely American portfolio its mostly worldwide companies that happen to be listed in America.
