So the bleating hearts are crying that you could be fined £10,000 or ten years in prison for not obeying the new rules. So what.

Don’t break the rules no problem. Indirectly if you bring a variant that could cause a death you could argue its manslaughter. A bit extreme but possible.though I do £1750 is a bit extreme why should the cost be born by. The tax payer.

People don't commit crime because they think the penalties are insignificant.

People commit crime because they believe the have a very good chance of getting away with it.

If there was 100% detection rate, one month in jail would work as well as 10 years.

In fact better because the longer they spend in jail, the worse they become and the harder to rehabilitate.

But unfortunately, it takes brains to improve the detection rate.

Wheras any fool can just increase the sentence for the tiny unfortunate minority who get caught.

If you are referring to the charge of £1750 for staying in a hotel during quarantine - I think you will find that is paid by the traveller, not the taxpayer.
