Studies of the AstraZeneca vaccine’s efficacy in the real world have been highly encouraging, with a recent analysis of 17,000 people showing it offers 82 per cent protection against the virus after the second dose. The green light from the European Medicines Agency on Thursday has cleared the way for states to use it again, and the company expects to be able to ramp up production in the second quarter. But governments and regulators can be forgiven for being cautious – and for reasons that have nothing to do with Brexit."

Seeing as it was Boris who invested British taxpayer money in the AZ vaccine ;-) ..........

Mr Cormaic is talking out of his arse >:-) .........

(lol) (lol) (lol) ..........

Except Johnson gave them next to nothing compared to what the EU and the USA threw their way. About 1 billion dollars from the US and 330 million dollars from the EU. I think the UK government gave them about 60 million. Governments have been throwing money at Vaccine developers but not this one.

AstraZeneca was allocated €336 million in public EU funding to help the development and production of its vaccine in collaboration with Oxford University. What the EU purchased was above and beyond that. They purchased 400 million doses which at nearly two Euros a dose (Far less than we paid), well even you can work that one out. The US invested a billion dollars! The UK, next to fcuk all. Whos the dumfcuk now then?

Its India that has blocked our AZ vaccines not the EU but of course the media and Johnson are blaming Europe and making out that there is a technical problem in India but the truth is there is no technical problem. The Indian government have blocked the shipments. Not a dicky bird about that though. funny huh?

Did you read what you linked to?

It basically sets how the EU is protecting its citizens against possible side effects and assigns where any liability will lie if there is a future claim.

Whereas here in the UK the government has given AstraZeneca complete indemnity so if there are issues the taxpayer will pick up the bill.

Oxford Medical Research received EU/EC funding. Oh dear.

21 July 2020

Jenner Institute out of pocket with expected loss of its largest funder, the European Commission

The head of a UK institute behind a promising coronavirus vaccine candidate is concerned about how to replace European Union funding after Brexit.

Adrian Hill, who is director of the Jenner Institute at the University of Oxford (pictured), made the comments following news that their vaccine—known as ChAdOx1 nCoV-19—had produced a promising immune response in a large, early-stage human trial.

The potential vaccine is being developed in collaboration with pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, with the first deliveries potentially starting in September.

"More generally across the programmes at the Jenner Institute—and there are more than 12 vaccines in clinical development now—the European Commission has probably been our largest funder over the past five years until now.

Funding has also been received from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS)

September 17, 2020

The government has been lauding the Jenner Institute at the University of Oxford, where researchers are working with AstraZeneca on a vaccine to combat Covid-19. In late July, the Institute's director Adrian Hill, told Sophie Inge of Research Professional News that, 'across the programmes at the Jenner Institute—and there are more than 12 vaccines in clinical development now – the European Commission has probably been our largest funder over the past five years until now'.

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/health-pharma/british-factories-should-make-up-astrazeneca-vaccine-supply-eu-says-1.4469257

It then goes on to say "in exchange for an agreement to supply the EU with 400 million early doses, part of a portfolio of more than two billion doses pre-booked by the bloc in a bid to halt the pandemic."

So they funded AZ way more than fat Wanksack Johnson did. The US even more so.

If not then both of those figures dwarf the funding from the UK which was a tiny 60 million.

What you reckon AstraZeneca developed the vaccine a month after China released the genetic sequencing data? We know you are stupid, you don't need to keep emphasising the fact.

Care to explain why they waited until the end of April to start clinical trials?

And the EU funding was to allow AstraZeneca to develop the manufacturing capacity so the vaccine could be made in large quantities. Without this support AstraZeneca could not have scaled up production so quickly. Payback was to be access to vaccines in a timely manner.

When is your second jab due? There's a shortage during April and May.

I believe the EU had been helping Oxford University with their funding over the last five years or so, how much of that was our money I wonder ?

Brian B.

Yes the EU has a habit of pooling funds from lots of countries and funding research at a larger scale than a single country could do without bankrupting future generations.

It also had the foresight to put millions in to BioNTech a year before covid struck which led to the Pfizer vaccine.

So that'll be UK taxpayers money then? >:-) ..........

Go on admit it ;-) ...........You know you want to (lol) (lol) (lol) ..........

Will someone please explain to the Dumbf*ck poster above the difference between "Investing" and "Buying" *-) ........

AstraZeneca was allocated €336 million in public EU funding to help the development and production of its vaccine in collaboration with Oxford University.

Still spreading FAKE NEWS *-) ..........

The EU INVESTED Sweet FA in AZ >:-) ........

All they did was try and buy it as cheap as possible to save a few shekels, and ensure the small print didn't make the EU liable if it didn't work :-| .........

Which is why they're at the back of the queue for delivery ;-) .........

You get what you pay for >:-) ..........

Ahem

It then goes on to say "in exchange for an agreement to supply the EU with 400 million early doses, part of a portfolio of more than two billion doses pre-booked by the bloc in a bid to halt the pandemic."

So they funded AZ way more than fat Wanksack Johnson did. The US even more so.

Still spreading FAKE NEWS *-) ........

"Who funded the AstraZeneca vaccine?

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was, as the name implies, chiefly funded by the university and the pharmaceutical company.

The research also received £65.5m in funding from the UK government.

There was ****SOME other investment***, but a University of Oxford spokesperson said it was difficult to untangle, because of the way research is funded."

Even the Loony Lefty BBC isn't pedalling your EU boll*cks >:-) .........

(lol) (lol) (lol) ........

Shows how out of touch you are. You STILL believe the BBC is a lefty broadcasting channel when its been under the Tory cosh for ages now. Are you suggesting the Irish Times is making it up?

Wonder if this was made up as well then. https://tinyurl.com/28pacunb

If not then both of those figures dwarf the funding from the UK which was a tiny 60 million.

These are funny foreigner newspapers though so unlike our trusty reliable media here in the UK probably cant be trusted eh?

You're still talking out of you ar*e Fatty >:-) ..........

The Astrazenica vaccine was developed in February 2020 B-) ..........

The EU didn't sign their deal with Astrazenica until AUGUST 2020 >:-) .........

So how the f*ck did the EU help develope the AZ vaccine??? (lol) (lol) (lol) ...........

As I told Fatty the EU dosh arrived in AUGUST far too late to help develope the vaccine or fund its clinical trials >:-) ..........

Yes there's a shortage for those under 50 who have yet to get their first jab ;-) .........

So dont waste your LOSER breath trying to scare folk into thinking they wont get their 2nd jab *-) .......

You really are dim. The EU actually signed their contract with AZ before the UK did. The funding was in advance of that date and as has been explained to you they have been funding AZ for years. Our money you say well not all of it of course and lets not forget the EU always funded stuff the government never would have. Those clowns ignored the results of operation Cygnus in 2016 and disbanded the pandemic department in 2019 to focus on Brexit instead which shows where their priorities lay and what happened next is the result of that. 140000+ and counting dead!

The funding awarded was on the understanding of a contract once it was ready and delivery of a large vaccine order which AZ have failed to deliver.

You haven't read your link again have you.

It was developed between January when the sequence was released and the end of April, as I said in my original response.

When did the uk agree to fund the Oxford vaccine?

Answer May, so who funded the early research?
