Am getting water marks spreading on the inside walls of my RV .. Apart from painting the interior is there anything else i can do to preserve the surface? .. this is an Australian Jayco made box on the ducato chassis comprising a thin layer of gelcoat over fibreglass and a thin layer of pl which wicks water up from the bottom edge or wherever water can get ingress[ .. i presume european models are also similarly made this way?

“pl” is probably “plywood”.

A GOOGLE-search on “jayco camper problems” produced the following results

There’s a (fairly inactive) “Unhappy Jayco Owners” Facebook group and their ‘About’ page

includes the following text

About

Jayco is a market leader in RVs in Australia. The problem is that their quality control and construction materials can leave a lot to be desired.

Coachbuilt motorhomes built in Europe (UK or on the Continent) use various different construction methods and materials when making the ‘box’. Some methods/materials will be less vulnerable to damage from water ingress than others, and some motorhome marques have a much better build-quality reputation than others.

I’m not sure if ‘wicking’ is perceived as a recognised fault for UK/Continental motorhomes, but - when plywood has been used in the construction in areas of the body that are exposed to a lot of water (eg. side skirts, around rear wheel-arches) - disintegration of the plywood is far from rare.

A 2014 forum ‘construction/rot’ posting by Mark (Hihosilver) is worth looking at
