Food rationing

Bulletguy

Recommended Posts

Warnings over food shortages were there three years ago but yet again they were dismissed as Project Fear.

Professor Tim Lang said insufficient supplies after the UK leaves the European Union could see the Government forced to adopt a measure last used during the Second World War and the post-war era.

However, Lang said the UK was currently less prepared for rationing than it was in 1939 as planning had started three years earlier by Sir William Beveridge ahead of the build-up to the conflict.

He said that 30% of Britain’s food supply comes directly from EU countries and a further 11% via deals done by the EU with other countries.

I'm touring Devon & Cornwall visiting a different supermarket every day or two.

Lots of gaps in the shelves

Assistant said its a supply issue

It's O.K.

I've been told it's because the U.K. is booming.

Supply can't keep up with demand ?

;-)

Emergency Brexit powers for lorry queues to be made permanent

Emergency powers to handle post-Brexit queues of lorries heading for France are being made permanent, signalling the government expects further cross-Channel disruption.

Operation Brock, a traffic management system designed to cope with queues of up to 13,000 lorries heading for mainland Europe across Kent, was meant to end by October 2021, after being extended once when the Brexit transition period ended in December 2020.

But ministers are planning to make the provisions indefinite by removing “sunset clauses” from the legislation that set out when the powers would expire, the Guardian has learned.

It means the emergency protocol can be activated at any time to govern the flow of lorries around the Port of Dover and Channel Tunnel at Folkestone with contraflow systems.

The change was published quietly in a consultation response on the government’s website during parliamentary recess while MPs were away from Westminster.

I'm not expecting any rationing , so you'll have to ask someone who is predicting it.

Also : I challenge you to find any thread where I have said that the U.K. would go into recession.

You haven't seen the debt that Johnson is racking up

When they can't pay Johnson's debts the English Government will do what Governments always do when they can't pay their debts.

Default through inflation.

So it will probably be about half a Euro by then :-S

I'm noe expecting food rationing either - unless Johnson votes for another war again.

They did it last time to try and make sure everyone got a fair share of food when they needed them in wartime.

But everyone getting a fair share is not what Johnson's Government is about.

As I see it, being on the " fence " politically, means being an independent person who doesn't support any particular political party.

In that case, I am still very firmly on the fence- from which I get a much clearer view of events than flocks of political sheep can see.

The " Referendum " was not to elect a political party Dave, although I'm not surprised that you think it was.

" Brexiteers " are not a political party Dave ( again - I'm not surprised you think it is ).

From my excellent view from up on the political fence I could not see any benefits in leaving the EU that made it worthwhile ( still can't )

so I supported Remain.

Choosing Remain was nothing to do with 'party political' independence.

I took your suggestion seriously, and looked up the definition of " Loser " in the dictionary :

It says : " People who live in a country whose Prime Minister is a scruffy unreliable showman "

Finally I can understand why you keep calling all us Brits " LOSERS "
