AED Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 Has anyone used the new Irish Ferry service Dover to Calais ? I noticed their prices seem to undercut the other companies, usually this is to gain a foothold for new businesses .Which boats are they using ? Anything we might recognise bought from earlier failed companies or from the Dublin run ? What was their experience ? Alan.
Derek Uzzell Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 The Irish Ferries website indicates that the ship being used on the Dover-to-Calais route is the “Isle of Inishmore” https://www.niferry.co.uk/isle-of-inishmore-irish-ferries/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Isle_of_Inishmore The new route was mentioned here in May (when I note you commented) https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Irish-Ferries-Dover-Calais-route/58230/
TeamRienza Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 Not used the new route as I live in N. Ireland so tend to go Dublin Cherbourg. However I have used the boat which has been part of the Irish Ferries fleet for many years. It is a decent boat and worked on the ireland Wales routes (usually Rosslare/Pembroke) for as long as I can remember. The only things that I would comment on are, they tended to operate using few Irish crew, mostly European, and the currency used on the boat is (or was) euros. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Isle_of_Inishmore Davy
