Sometimes they get their comeuppance though.

He voted five times or something against raising universal credit.

(lol)

There's a few more who need to feel that pain too. He can't complain....he got what he voted for!

20 minute speech from the Chair of the Committie on Standards in Public Life

Worth listening to introduction at 10.18 mins starts around 12 mins

The situation of the regulator is difficult because they are appointed by those they regulate.

It depends on politicians being good chaps and doing the right thing

So when you get someone like Johnson it really throws a spanner in the works

He was sacked from his other jobs for lying, but how can he be sacked from this one when he has been elected?

Scary how bad things have got.

Especially when you realise how powerful Johnson is.

However corrupt he may be, Johnson has been elected, the regulator hasn't, so how can the unelected regulator rein in the elected Johnson ?

:-S

I guess what we really need is transparency and a fair press so the likes of Johnson don't get elected.

Easy......all it requires is 15% of sitting Cons, which would be 54 MP's, to write letters of no confidence to the 1922 committee which triggers a leadership contest.

Good link btw and well worth the listen. This is what Johnson and his crooks want shut down.

But, for all his faults, Johnson is a great campaigner and their greatest concern is getting elected.

He has already deselected those like Anna Soubry with the integrity and backbone to stand up to bullying and intimidation.

Revelations of sleaze have done little to damage Johnson's support, because his supporters don't realise how they are being cheated.

Revealingly, Pelmethead said he wasn't paying Paterson's £500k bung *-)

They need educating.

But how do you do that when he despises the educated and has the attention span of a gnat ?

Looks like Daily Mail is back to normal.

Editor sacked for truth telling and Dacre brought back

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2021/nov/22/paul-dacre-appointed-editor-in-chief-of-daily-mail-parent-company

But if the readership is like pelmethead I guess they would desert the Daily Mail if it told the truth.

:-S

Looks like the Daily Mail has seen the error of its ways........and is now back on the path to RIGHTeousness B-) .........

“Stupidity is a more dangerous enemy of the good than malice. One may protest against evil; it can be exposed and, if need be, prevented by use of force. Evil always carries within itself the germ of its own subversion in that it leaves behind in human beings at least a sense of unease. Against stupidity we are defenseless.

Neither protests nor the use of force accomplish anything here reasons fall on deaf ears; facts that contradict one’s prejudgment simply need not be believed – in such moments the stupid person even becomes critical – and when facts are irrefutable they are just pushed aside as inconsequential, as incidental.

In all this the stupid person, in contrast to the malicious one, is utterly self satisfied and, being easily irritated, becomes dangerous by going on the attack. For that reason, greater caution is called for when dealing with a stupid person than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous. ."

A Proper Right Wing Government would support Business and Free Enterprise.

Wheras Johnson's only support themselves.

Even though he is crippling Business and Honest Free Enterprise.

But the Daily Mail has gone down a one way street with no way back.

With a readership like you, if they started telling the truth their readership would desert them.

And they wouldn't get enough educated people to replace you.

Because there are better options like the Guardian.

Depressing but true.

And I guess too many people have no time for politics. Too busy falling out with each other. Like crammed into overcrowded housing fighting like rats in a sack and stabbing each other over a parking space. Blame Immigrants, Benefit claimants.(but not p!ss takers like the extended Royal Family). The EU.. anyone but the Government engineering it. Same Old Tory Divide & Rule.
